Hiraeth - A Search for Belonging. Please share far and wide.

Open Call for an exhibition at Bluebell Would gallery to begin on 22nd January 2027. No application fees. Any media and open to all.

Apply by the end of November 2026 by emailing images of up to three works to [email protected], using Hiraeth as the subject and detailing size and media with a brief statement explaining what Hiraeth means to you and your work.

Not sure what Hiraeth means? English gives a very lazy definition of "homesickness" but it is way more nuanced than that. The best definition I've come across is the one given on the second slide by Pamela Petro. It comes from an excellent article by her, published on Wales.com.

Successful applicants will be notified by 19th December. Works need to be delivered to the gallery by appointment during opening hours the week beginning 11th January 2927 and picked up between 5pm and 9pm Friday 12th February 2027. Commission of 25% payable on sold items.

100 and done...time for a couple of days off. Celebrating reaching the end of the 100 day project by taking a couple of days off (my first in 7 months!) A massive thank you to the brave souls who attempted 100 days of creativity alongside me, even if you didn't make it to the end. It's a huge commitment and harder than it sounds. We will be exhibiting our work at the gallery from 22nd-31st October. Do come along and see what everyone achieved.
The gallery will be open again on Thursday at 11am by which time I will hopefully be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed after some serious time devoted to sleep.

Feeling autumnal enough for you yet? Don't dread the coming of the cold; celebrate the gorgeous colours around us and the approach of spookfest! Pop into the gallery for the most beautiful stained glass by peak.refractions , fused glass Hallowe'en delights by Katie Lynn Fused Glass Artist working in Essex , enamel pins from Stacey McEvoy Caunt , and just smell these fantastic autumn candles from RinkyDink Candles - Alternative Candles by Aimee Lauren .
Don't forget I will be closed on Sunday and Monday while I take my first days off in seven months! Gallery open as normal today and tomorrow, and then from Thursday.

Almost went for a Wizzard song because it really does feel like Xmas everyday coming into the gallery and setting out new stock. Here we have gorgeous new autumnal scents from , beautiful ceramics from Inga Winson , a very limited edition reduction linocut by Nick Coulbeck, fantastic new linocuts by Polly Marix Evans (including a cat that won't wake you up in the middle of the night yowling to go out), and some fabulous new framed wood engravings by Anthony | painter & printmaker (plus a new Listen to Meg, which just needs to unroll before presenting herself). The last image is a print from John Pedder 1/Many caretaker - so glad my name popped out of the hat. I will be donating to RNLI who save hundreds of lives every year, putting themselves potentially in harm's way without judgement. RNLI Cleethorpes does a fantastic job saving people and educating others about the dangerous aspects of our beautiful coastline.

I am selling these badges by In Rainbows ☼ Alli at cost price to me - I do not want to be making a profit out of being anti-AI art; people spreading the word is enough for me! Come and get them for £1 each ...for yourself, all your friends, your aged granny etc etc. AI is taking away artists' livelihoods. Take a stand and celebrate creativity and humanity.

I am admitting defeat. Not with the gallery. Oh no, that is going from strength to strength with all the support from the local community. In a most uncharacteristic moment, I am listening to what my body needs rather than what my mind wants. It's been a massive year for me and I am blown away by how well the gallery is doing. However, in an attempt to get my hypertension, severe vitamin b12 deficiency, and fibromyalgia under control, I will not be hosting evening classes in November and December. All the poetry hosted by Communiverse ✨ will continue, as will a planned Ghost Story night on 14th December.
I will resume hosting evening events in January when watercolour classes will return and you can expect new activities like zine making and three evenings where you bring along art, textile crafts, or creative writing respectively and work alongside other like-minded people, letting ideas bounce off each other. The open call exhibition "Hiraeth - the search for belonging" will take place as planned...apply by 31st October if you want to be considered.
Next year will be an even bigger year, for many reasons, and I want to be in tip-top condition. I may also have to go searching in the dictionary for a handy two letter word beginning with n and add it to my vocabulary.

Only if those colours are black and white though! Huge shout out to the monochrome spectacular that is Holly (Communiverse ✨ / Holly • Sign-Writer & Muralist ) who has just delivered another fantastic poetry evening at the gallery. Thank you so much to everyone who attended - so many of you tonight! - and showed their support for Holly (and the gallery). Tomorrow, Holly will be helping out LucysArtClub with their new art café at The Living Room on Alexandra Road, Cleethorpes. If you're around, please show your support and check it out. A huge amount of work goes into building our own creative communities at a time when arts funding is being decimated by the government. But it can only be maintained with your support.
