WIGHT MILITARY AND HERITAGE MUSEUM

Immerse yourself in history at Wight Military and Heritage Museum in Northwood. Our exhibits range from the 1850’s to the 2000’s. Come and see our newly renovated small arms room and enjoy a coffee or snack in Churchills Tea Rooms the museum Café, which is filled with Churchill memorabilia and provides hot and cold refreshments. Not to be missed is the fully stocked gift shop.

lots of interactive opportunities are available, like having your photograph taken with one of the small arms, or in the back of an armoured car. Subject to weather and additional payment you might even be able to ride in one of our vehicles over our cross-country track. You can also test your skills on our air-rifle range for an additional charge.

The 1940’s street scene, with replica shop fronts, an Air Raid Precautions (ARP) office, mechanics workshop, general stores and Sunday school room give an insight into civilian life during WW2. Other interesting items from the WW2 include an American half-track and a huge Mighty Scammell recovery truck. Not to be missed is our cold war Russian missile.

From WW1 there are machine guns on display and the remains of a Howitzer gun trail, which was destroyed in Iraq after being manned by a group of young men from Freshwater.
