We are excited to be showcasing the fantastic printmaking of Melvyn Evans, showing with us for the first time for our 30th Anniversary Show.

Melvyn Evans

Melvyn is interested in how our understanding of the landscape as being permanent has recently altered. We have moved from being in awe of the landscape to being able to influence the landscape in such a way as to produce irreparable change. The stumps of great forests fossilised and exposed at particularly low tides give us a glimpse of lost causeways, like Doggerland, hinting at previous upheavals and give us an understanding of the fragility of the landscape we know.

We are thrilled to welcome back Louisa to our 30th Anniversary show. After many years organising The Cranbrook Art Show she is returning to celebrate with us.

Louisa Crispin

"Working outside gives a language of immediacy and understanding, relinquishing control to the elements, but always I return to the quiet observations, intricate moments in time delicately captured."
A naturalist at heart, Louisa's studio is reminiscent of an old school nature table with reminders of her walks, the things that catch her eye, waiting for their moment in the spotlight. Texture, shadows, silhouettes and movement recreated using graphite marks and tone, it's rarely about the colour

Introducing Lucy Clayton, SGFA to The Cranbrook Art Show 30th Anniversary line up.

Lucy is inspired by the vibrant colours and patterns in nature and food, her work blends graphic detail with the elegance of watercolour. She explores how taste, texture and smell evoke memory and emotion, often drawing from personal experiences.
Currently, Lucy has been working with the blotted line technique. She begins with a detailed drawing, transfers it onto tracing paper and then prints it with drawing ink onto watercolour paper. This slow, tactile process invites texture and unpredictability, adding depth and character to each piece while celebrating the beauty of imperfection and chance.

Unfortunately Instagram is intent on cropping her gorgeous paintings so visit the show to see her work.

Introducing The Cranbrook Art Show 30th Anniversary line up.

Jude's work celebrates the beauty in the everyday and her response through observation and memory to the passing of time. She often finds herself wandering through her garden and house selecting items to paint, a bunch of daisies a vase or a favourite cup.
Jude initially works from observation making endless studies, sketches and photographs of her garden or the gardens at Godinton House where she has her studio. Her larger work is a response to these studies and her memory of the garden or place, however fleeting. She enjoys mark making using brushes, rags and scrapers to create a surface which has multiple layers. She begins with loose translucent paint, then building the layers but always leaving glimpses of the layers underneath. Painting is physical and Jude uses oil paint as her medium because she enjoys how the paint glides; the translucent glow of burnt sienna and the thick buttery feel of yellow ochre.
