Paul Riley at 80 - ‘Unseen Worlds’ opens next week on Friday evening at
Despite recently turning 80 there is no slowing down in Paul’s inspiration or painting ability. A bold series of triptychs, diptychs and detailed studies of the natural world have been created afresh for this exhibition.
“ Imagine yourself going on a walk in the countryside or by the sea. It might be Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter; dawn, dusk or the middle of the day. You sit down for a while - all is quiet. Suddenly, you are aware of a movement - a creature that has remained hidden makes its presence known.
This normally unseen world is abundant and observes, not only the world, that gives it good and shelter but us also.
This delicate world we live in is in a vulnerable state. Many of us are too busy to notice. The countryside is just countryside; the sea just sea, but it has moods and a changing face subject to weather and the seasons.
The little creatures can tell us so much.
I have attempted to paint images to reflect these unseen worlds and have accompanied them with haiku poems to help tell the story” Paul Riley - 2024
Exhibition runs until 23rd November 2024
