Dawlish Museum

Dawlish Museum We have 11 rooms over 3 floors packed with artefacts and more.

Dawlish Museum is housed in The Knowle, which was built in the early 1800's as a gentleman's residence and the museum came here in 1969 eventually taking over the whole building. Home to the famous D-Day bagpipes of Piper Bill Millin Dawlish Museum has 11 rooms over 3 floors bursting with local artifacts and fascinating facts about the towns history. There is a special room dedicated to the horren

dous storm of early February 2014 which left the railway line hanging in mid-air and the rail network cut off from the rest of the UK. Using archive photographs and video it tells not only the story of the storm and the unbelievable damage caused to the railway infrastructure but also the herculean efforts made by Network Rail engineers to re-open the line.

If you are a fan of the programme Bargain Hunt watch out for the episode set to air on Friday the 19th of June at 12.15 pm . Back in November last year the museum was proud to be a witness to their filming of Piper Bills son John when he was interviewed here in front of his dads legendary pipes and at the War memorial. Presenter Christina and the film crew were a delight to host and we can't wait to see the result of their mini segment to the show.
