Part 2: Then came the fog! And it was thank you to the gents from the 10th, our CEMA gang and two new ladies (who broke our sledgehammer 😀) getting together to begin constructing the new German trench system!

Stay tuned for part 3 which took place last weekend AND we're there again this coming weekend so do get in touch if you fancy getting some dirt under your fingernails and learning a bit about the history of trench construction in the process! The more the merrier!

It's been a minute! But were back and its all been happening!

A couple of weeks ago we finally got a mechanical digger on site, supplied for free by local plant firm with operator. This helped to make short work of digging the new German trench foundations!

We filled a goodly amount of sandbags for much needed renovations to the British trench system.
We've also extended the British trench to include a new latrine, and a regimental aid post.

We've got lots to show from the past two work weekends in March! 15 of us on site today for example! Can't wait to share our progress.

Thanks to for these pics and to everyone who has helped so far...you know who you are!!

The trench was sparkling with frost today as we gave it a bit of a spring clean before our first school visit of 2026 this Friday!

The weather plays a big part in our trench visits as it enables us to discuss the varied experiences and attire of the First World War Soldier depending on the season.

It wasn't always dark and pouring with rain afterall.

Today Britain remembers. But at CEMA everyday is a day of remembrance.

As WW1 and WW2 move ever further beyond living memory we harness our own knowledge, research and the legacy of stories passed down to us from our own family members and acquaintances to educate young people about the tremendous sacrifices and wartime experiences of those who went before.

On this day we are also mindful of the members of the armed forces who served since and soldiers still serving in the numerous, devastating conflicts the world over.

We shall not forget.

This photo was taken earlier this summer when a single poppy grew in the blast box in front of our WW2 Andersen Shelter.
