Another goal achieved on Monday was to fit our J.S White Compound Marine Engine with a new quieter motor drive. The previous one was rather loud and could be heard throughout the museum but the new one allows the engine to be turned quieter, making for a more pleasant and peaceful experience for both volunteers and visitors!

🎉 A big welcome to our newest volunteer!

We’re delighted to welcome Sinead to the Markham Grange team! 👋

Sinéad, 19, has a real passion for heritage engineering and has been involved with vintage tractors, traction engines, and steam rollers for most of her life. Now, she’s stepping into the wonderful, slightly crazy, and very fun world of stationary steam engines! 🔥💨

Her boyfriend James has been volunteering with us for some time, and after coming along today, Sinéad decided she liked Markham Grange so much she just had to join in the madness!

She didn’t hang about either — getting stuck in straight away on Brewery No.2, where volunteer Robert gave her a hands-on lesson in starting and driving the engine. 🚂

Welcome aboard, Sinéad! We’re absolutely thrilled to have you with us and can’t wait to see you getting even more involved! 👏

Remember we’re open today!!! 10:00-15:30!!!!
