Yesterday saw members from Air Cadet Squadrons from across the Doncaster region gather at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum for to commemorate the sacrifice made by the few during the Battle of Britain.

Organised by the Cadet Warrant Officers, the parade was well received by all in attendance.

The South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum is saddened to share news of the passing of Nigel Porembski, a long-serving and dedicated volunteer.

Nigel had been with the museum since 2000 and formed a key part of our restorations team, and played a key role in our Sea King, Sycamore, Scout and Huey restorations alongside assisting numerous other projects and displays across the museum and providing advice and guidance to other volunteers.

Nigel’s character will be greatly missed, and the thoughts of everyone at the museum are with those closest to Nigel at this difficult time.

This weekend sees Doncaster Racecourse host the 250th St Leger Festival, the oldest of Britains five classic horse races.

But did you know that Doncaster also hosted another milestone race event at the racecourse? 1909 saw the UK’s first ‘Aviation Meeting’ gathering pioneering aviators from across the globe to compete in a series of races and challenges to demonstrate the new technology.

It’s a beautiful morning here in Doncaster and we’re ready for our final ‘Open Cockpits’ Weekend of 2026!

With over 25 different cockpits opened especially for this weekend, including some that have not been open to the public for many years, come along and have a great day out in the sunshine!

Taking place on 5th & 6th September, the museum will be open from 10:00 to 17:00 each day, with last admission one hour before closing.

The summer holidays are nearly over and it’s almost time for back to school, but we’ve got one more special weekend before life returns to normal…

This weekend sees our final ‘Open Cockpits Weekend’ for 2026, with up to 30 of our aircraft opened up especially for the weekend!

Taking place on 5th -6th September from 10:00 to 17:00 each day, why not join us for a great day out for all the family?

We’re open all through the Bank Holiday weekend from 10:00 to 17:00 each day, with last entry one hour before closing.

With our displays spread across three original buildings from RAF Doncaster, there’s plenty still to see and do here at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum when the sun isn’t shining!

Out and about this weekend again and this time we’re supporting our friends at the Vulcan Restoration Trust for their open day with XL426 at Southend Airport.

Our Canberra, Meteor, Jet Provost and Tucano Simulator have made the trip to Essex to be displayed alongside the mighty Vulcan and for the Open Day visitors to climb inside!

August is always a busy month at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum, and we’ve once again hit the road!

Kicking things off this weekend at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre’ East Kirkby Airshow, we’re attending with our Meteor and Jet Provost cockpits, and Tucano procedures simulator. Located on the flight line, do come down and say ‘hello’ if you’re visiting the show!
