More on the Glen Earrach Pumped Hydro - what a mess!

One of the most famous cryptid photos ever taken — the “full body” image captured on June 20, 1975 by Robert Rines during an expedition on Loch Ness. Using sonar and underwater photography, Rines and his team claimed to have photographed a large creature deep beneath the surface.

The image became one of the most debated pieces of evidence in the search for the legendary Loch Ness Monster — with believers calling it proof of an unknown animal, while skeptics argue it could be debris, sediment, or photographic distortion.

Nearly 50 years later, Nessie remains one of the world’s greatest cryptid mysteries. What do you think was captured in this photo?

Highland Council has raised no objection to the Glen Earrach Pumped Hydro scheme.

This will significantly impact the ecology of Loch Ness and its shoreline. Of key importance are modifications to the Dochfour Weir which have yet to be agreed.

The project includes the construction of a camp for up to 1,000 workers.

Construction access is from the A831, at the Balnain Forestry carpark.

This is a major civil engineering project and HGV traffic on the A831 through Glenurquhart will be a nightmare for residents and tourists.

The number of major developments planning to use the A831 for construction access, either consented or in the pipeline, is growing:

Glen Earrach Pumped Hydro
Chrathaich Wind Farm
Cnoc Farasd Wind Farm (and grid connection)
Bingally substation
Tomchrasky Wind Farm grid connection
Fasnaklye Energy storage Unit
