🏛️🚋 DAY 1 - Introduction to Maryfield

Opened in 1901, Maryfield Tram Depot became the operational heart of Dundee’s tram network, serving the city for decades and playing a major role in Dundee’s transport history.

This historic building, now the future home of Dundee Museum of Transport, has witnessed generations of change across the city and remains one of Dundee’s most important surviving transport landmarks.

Today’s photograph shows the depot during its working years, surrounded by some of the vehicles that once kept Dundee moving.

Throughout June, we’ll be sharing photographs, memories and stories celebrating 125 years of Maryfield.

🏆🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️ WINNER! Absolutely over the moon to be awarded Dundonian of the Year at this year’s DUSA President’s Awards.

To receive this recognition from the students of the University of Dundee means a tremendous amount and is something I never expected.

This just weeks off the back after being recognised as a finalist in the Scottish Influencer Awards. To receive two accolades in such a short space of time is something I’m still struggling to get my head around.

I’ve always championed Dundee and I’ve spent the last 12 years doing my best to showcase it, celebrate it and champion it through Dundee Culture.

Again, this award isn’t just for me. It belongs to everyone who has supported Dundee Culture over the years, shared a post, read an article, tipped me off about a story, partnered with the platform or simply believed in what we’re trying to achieve.

Thank you to DUSA and the University of Dundee for this incredible honour.

Brief History of the Ridgway Discovery ERF it was recently gifted to the Museum of Transport by the Ridgway family .
It was designed to promote Dundee City of Dundee Campaign in 2000
This vehicle was in service from 2000 driven by John Ovenstone who joined the company as a youth obtains his HGV and he covered in excess of 800,000 miles over the years delivering mainly Textiles,Coffee and Tesco products .
John along with other Ridgway drivers obtained Safe Driving awards for all their Accidents free driving with P S Ridgway Ltd .
The vehicles was retired from long Distance and it was used at the Greenock depot to shunt Newsprint from the docks
Then parked up for many years unused .
Hopefully the E RF will be restored by the Museum of Transport and viewed in the new museum at Maryfield giving the full story of this vehicle promoting our City
