🌟 New for 2026: Individual Volunteer of the Year! 🏆

Do you know a "heritage hero" who goes above and beyond? For the first time, we are launching the Individual Volunteer of the Year Award in partnership with the Marsh Charitable Trust.

This award celebrates the people who are the heartbeat of our museums. From the "unsung heroes" working behind the scenes to the creative minds bringing new energy to your collections, we want to hear their stories.

Who can you nominate?
✨ The Unsung Hero: Someone whose quiet reliability keeps everything running smoothly.
✨ The Impact-Maker: Someone who has stepped up to take on vital new responsibilities.
✨ The Includer: A volunteer who makes every visitor and team member feel welcome.

💰 The Prize: The winner receives £250 and a profile in the BAFM Journal!

🦐 Did you know that the Royal Research Ship Discovery (1901) here in Dundee is the first in a line of four ships to have carried the same name?

The fourth generation of RRS Discovery (2012) sails the globe to this day, undertaking vital scientific research, using data from our RRS Discovery's 1925 Expeditions as benchmarks.

Our current exhibition, '100 Years of RRS Discovery' invites you to explore life aboard four generations of RRS Discovery, to discover the range of roles involved in ocean exploration, and to dive into the Discovery Investigations carried out on our ship a century ago 🌊

A capacity crowd at the Verdant Works Museum enjoyed a fantastic evening of song yesterday with local entertainers, Paul Sullivan, Paul Hastie, Fiona McRobbie, Archie Turnbull, Alexandra Clark, Hannah Petrie, Daisy Donaghey and Shahzad Hossain Ibrahim. Well done everyone!

We held our AGM on 13th May at Discovery Point and RRS Discovery. A large number of members attended and after comprehensive reports by Alastair Scott, Sandra Thomson and Richard Irvine, the following officers were elected, Chair, Alastair Scott, Vice Chair, Stuart Dodd, Treasurer and Secretary, Sandra Thomson and Committee members, Richard Irvine, Mike Hardie and Ray Edwards.
After the formal meeting, the group enjoyed an excellent presentation by Operations Director, Ali Gellatly upon the latest conservation activity on board the Discovery.
