This week, due to an issue with the main heating system, Palace Green Library will be closed to visitors and we will be using 7 Owengate (photo below) as the main point. Please head there to collect your wristbands before the tour. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to resuming things as normal as soon as possible.

Durham Castle Museum and Tours will be closed Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th January. We will be resuming our tours on Monday 9th January.

We are now closed until the New Year.

Before we put our feet up to enjoy a mulled wine and a cheeky mince pie, we would like to wish all our past and future visitors a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. ⛄️🎄

Thank you for joining us during our festive Christmas tours at Durham Castle! The Great Hall was beautiful with its Christmas tree lit up and carols singing in the air. It was so lovely seeing our visitors stay a bit longer to soak in the beautiful atmosphere and enjoy a hot drink or some festive crafts. Thank you also to the guides and volunteers who helped on the day, and to Robin the Reindeer for hiding around the rooms and providing fun for our little visitors!
