Sorry to be the fun police,, but after a few years I have noticed the walls are looking really rough and some people have been disrespecting the area so ..I have updated the rules.
I hope I dont have to be the guy to keep reminding people, but ...
These legal walls have been generously made available by community patrons to encourage self-expression, creativity, and fun. They are open to everyone, but with that freedom comes shared responsibility. To keep this space safe, legal, and open to all, please follow the rules below carefully: —
THE RULES
1. PAINT ONLY IN DESIGNATED AREAS. Only paint within areas marked in green on the map and physically outlined in green on-site. Any painting outside of these zones is illegal and is not the responsibility of the organisers, patrons, or fellow artists. CCTV is in operation, and we work closely with the local police.
2. OPENING HOURS The walls are open 24/7, but please respect the area and its surrounding community at all times.
3. EVERY PIECE IS TEMPORARY Except the Stan Laurel mural, Manzo’s shutters, children’s chalk wall, and SLIPA doors, all walls will be painted over regularly. Do your best work, take your photos, and understand that part of the beauty of this space is its ever-changing nature.
4. NO CREWS, NO CONFLICTS We are not affiliated with any crews. This is a teaching and learning environment built on mutual respect. Leave egos at the door. No beef, no drama – play nice or don’t play at all.
5. DON’T HOG THE SPACE. If you have more than four pieces up at once, please either fill in blank areas or go over your own older work. This rule exists to ensure fair access for all artists, especially those who are new, learning, or don’t have regular opportunities to paint. These walls are about sharing, not dominating. If you don’t follow this, your additional pieces will be painted over without warning to free up space. Repeated disregard for this rule may result in a temporary or permanent ban from using the wall and participating in future events.
6. NO TAGS, OR THROW-UPS OVER PIECES Do not tag over fresh work or throw up pieces over detailed work. If it's applicable to go over someone else's work, then please cover it.
7. NO OFFENSIVE OR INFLAMMATORY CONTENT No swearing, hate speech, racism, discrimination, or politically provocative content is allowed on the walls. This is a community space used by people of all ages, including families and schools – keep it respectful. Any artwork that breaches this rule will be removed immediately, and you may be banned from the site.
8. LADDERS AND SCAFFOLDING These can be provided if arranged in advance. Please contact us before your visit to make arrangements.
9. NO UNAUTHORISED PROMOTIONS OR ADVERTISING Art used for business, branding, or product promotion will be removed unless you have received prior approval. If you’re a business or brand, contact us first if you wish to paint.
10. RESPECT THE SPACE AND COMMUNITY. This area is in a town that needs colour, culture, and community. Be part of the solution. Clean up after yourself – use the bins provided. Morrisons has large bins available for empty cans.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE RULES WILL RESULT IN BANS FROM THE SMOKEHOUSE AND ALL SUBSEQUENT EVENTS.
