There were a few tears when I handed over this painting today… mine included.

I absolutely adored working on this commission, from a photograph taken in 1983. Meeting the lovely family behind it and seeing how much it meant to them is something I’ll remember for a long time.

Sometimes it’s hard to put into words what an honour this job is. Thank you for trusting me with such a precious memory.

Absolutely chuffed to bits to receive this beautiful artwork from Jo Hayman who painted this at Seabournes Studios during my last retreat. I had to frame it immediately. I love the way Jo captured the views and the sense of peace. I love it, very special painting of a very special place.

I started learning to frame around the same time I started painting because… well why not!? 5 years in and I don’t think I talk about this enough. Every painting I do I make the canvas and cut/build/paint the frame and I’ve learnt quite a lot in the last 5 years. I can do all sorts now including glazed works and mounts. I’m finally in the process of putting a catalogue together of what I can offer my commission clients… almost there, more sexy frame pics coming soon! If you want to talk to me about frames then please do. I can go for hours 😂

Hard to put in to words what a special place Seabournes Studios is. I returned home yesterday with full batteries (and a very full belly) after a long summer of heat delaying paintings, kids off school whilst trying to meet commission deadlines and a new role as OSWBNH chair to get to grips with. All of these things I choose to do, and I’m so lucky to have such a beautiful full life but sometimes taking a few days out to reconnect with my art and meet incredible people is all I need to keep ploughing forward to next stage. A huge thank you to Karen Baker who is the heart and soul of Seabournes (along with various animals). Part 2 of this months homework was to make a larger version of one of the thumbnails. I picked this one as I felt like it was something I could achieve in an hour (in-between commission work). I absolutely love it although I keep seeing things I want to change!! Must not touch!!! Next up is the last pic, it’s only 9cm x 12 and I’d love to give it more than 4 minutes of my attention on a larger scale.

Each of the reference photographs were in colour which I then attempted to paint in monochrome to get a better understanding of value. There’s a few I absolutely love, very hard not to cheat and go over the 4 minute mark!!
