You’re invited to our next event! 10 days until Feed the Flame.

We are looking forward to welcoming a variety of talented local poets for BirdsNest’s summer poetry reading, continuing a cherished tradition.

Zain Rishi, Olivia Calderón, Mattea Gernentz, and more will be sharing writing related to memory, landscape, past meeting present, and the climate crisis. Join us to escape the Fringe chaos with incredible art and a cup of tea. We will also be celebrating the anticipated release of our “Auld Reekie Reinvented” zine.

The event will take place on Sunday, 24 August, 2:00-4:00 pm at our Southside venue. Tickets are free, but donations are welcomed to support future events. Please reserve your space through Eventbrite, linked in bio.

If you are a poet interested in joining the reader list, you may send us a direct message by 18 August. Thank you!

Is it hot in here, or is that just us? 🔥

You’re invited to join BirdsNest for the grand opening of our summer display: ’The Great Fire of Edinburgh’!

Did you know Edinburgh suffered a tragic fire just over a hundred years ago? Scottish artist MR.J has now vividly brought it to life, drawing inspiration from artistic pioneer and landscape painter JMW Turner.

In the current climate crisis, this image holds a particular resonance and urgency. How are we learning from the past in order to protect the places and the people we hold dear? Art remains a meaningful catalyst for these important conversations.

Celebrate the launch with us:
Saturday, 2 August, 11:00 am-6:00 pm
MR.J’s Close is located opposite the John Knox House.
67 High St, EH1 1SR
Refreshments will be provided, and all are welcome.

A New Chapter in the Nest

Hello, old friend! You may have noticed that our Instagram account has been quiet while our organisation has been undergoing changes. In recent months, our Southside space has been transformed and our vision has expanded. We look forward to interacting with art lovers this summer, and our team has exciting plans to share.

We currently have a project located along the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, bringing art to the public through glimpses of iconic Edinburgh landscapes. For those who remember BirdsNest Meadows, we have now migrated from this police box to a charming Victorian telephone box, still remaining the smallest gallery in Scotland. In the future, we hope to invite emerging artists to leave their mark on the space.

We are shifting our emphasis from running a gallery to being a host of cultural events. With this reorientation, we are also refining our name—no longer BirdsNest Gallery, but simply BirdsNest. Since 2021, our team has strived to create a unique space of welcome, inspiration, and renewal for creatives in the city. It has been the core of our vision. We acknowledge the power that art holds and look forward to continuing to be a hub for beautiful conversations and experiences. 🪺
