A very sad day for the Scottish arts and culture sector. Thanks to The Skinny The Skinny Magazine for the years of innovative, impassioned, and brilliant journalism, and for all you’ve done to promote artists in our programme, in our partnership and beyond.

Just a few months ago, richard🍀maguire was featured in a beautiful piece written by Eleanor Affleck eleanor affleck - one our team was so excited to see hit stands, as Eleanor so lyrically captured the essence of ’There Is No Beginning, As There Is No End’.

We send all our love to the wonderful and talented team at The Skinny ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

We're expecting a big crowd to turn up on Calton Hill for tonight's partial solar eclipse, especially to our site where the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh will be hosting an observation event 🔭

The society are kindly providing some eclipse glasses and some telescopes to safely view the eclipse. In the event that they run out of glasses, we ask that you share with each other. Whilst planets do move fast, the eclipse will be observable for over an hour so there is plenty of time for everyone to catch a glimpse of this rare astronomical event!

🔗 Follow the link in our bio to read some of the Astronomical Society's tips for safely viewing the eclipse and more details of tonight's event.

Our next Play Saturday is coming up soon!

Come along on Saturday 18 July for an afternoon of hands-on making, storytelling and mysticism, inspired by our current exhibition 'Afterlife' by Katie Paterson 🌖

Our lead play artist Kat Stanley invites participants to transform into environmental guardians through crafting protective amulets from natural materials, and making costumes that pay homage to the nature around us!

New in the shop 🖌️

Artist and writer has created natural watercolour pigments from hawthorn and rosebay willowherb collected from Calton Hill. This is a perfect way to take a piece of Edinburgh home with you, or a great gift for those into plant-based making 🌿

In 2025, Annie Lord led a site-specific drawing workshop as part of Collective Gallery’s Panorama programme, which took inspiration from the origins of the panorama to explore how we see, move through and understand the city today.

🛒 Pop into our shop to see our full range of products from local artists and makers.

You’re invited: Richard Maguire Exhibition Launch

Join us on Thursday 9 July to celebrate the opening of Richard Maguire’s There Is No Beginning, As There Is No End, the inaugural exhibition in our new Time + Space programme.

Maguire’s drawings and sculptures consider how ideas around sexuality have been shaped and weaponised through colonial histories. The exhibition will be a presentation of new work, drawing from archival imagery, religious artworks and historical representations of q***r intimacy from the Indian subcontinent.

🎟️ This event is free but ticketed – please book your spot at the link in our bio!

🎪 EAF26: Hidden histories. Transformed venues. Radical artistic voices.

The programme for the UK’s largest annual festival of visual art is now live to explore!

Returning to Edinburgh from 14—30 August, the festival is a dedicated platform for visual art during Edinburgh’s festival season. Spread across the entire city, EAF brings together 45 galleries, museums and community spaces with a programme of specially commissioned work. We showcase artists: local and global; historic and contemporary; emerging and established; and always strive to amplify intersectional voices.

We’re thrilled to partner with EAF once again, and this year we’re presenting two exhibitions during the festival:

Katie Paterson: Afterlife from 19 June – 6 September 2026

Richard Maguire: There is no beginning, as there is no end from 10 July – 13 September

The full festival programme is now live to book: with an events programme of live performance, talks from internationally acclaimed artists, community-driven workshops, and space for people to pause, gather, and reflect.

See the whole programme, explore all of the Partner Galleries, and book tickets, now at edinburghartfestival.com or at the link in our bio

Afterlife was commissioned by Creative Folkestone for Folkestone Triennial 2025, with additional support from The Shifting Foundation, Collective Edinburgh and Goethe Institut Glasgow. Exhibition Design by Zeller & Moye.

Richard Maguire: There is no beginning, as there is no end is the first exhibition in Collective’s Time + Space programme, which is supported by Creative Scotland’s Multi-Year Funding Programme.

Katie Paterson: Afterlife Exhibition Launch

Join us to celebrate the opening of Katie Paterson’s Afterlife, a sculptural installation of nearly 200 amulets. Initially commissioned for Folkestone Triennial 2025, each amulet is created with materials sourced from endangered landscapes and fragile ecosystems, exploring themes of deep time, geology, and the environment. Drawing on centuries of cultural and spiritual traditions, Afterlife prompts us to reflect on the fragility of the natural world today.
