Sharing a memory of one of the best events we’ve had the pleasure of attending: “The Duke’s guests” at Apsley House. The event is a wonderful evening of Regency dancing, card playing, silhouette portrait making and socialising in the heart of London in the historic home of Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington.

On this day, 13th August 1704, the Allies under the command of the English General John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, defeated the French and Bavarian army commanded by Marshall Tallard at the Battle of Blenheim.

This victory was considered the turning point of the War of the Spanish Succession and was the first of numerous major victories Marlborough would experience in the years to come.

Below is an image of our interpretation of a Marburian Officer with solders of the Queen's Regiment taken at Blenheim Palace, Marlborough's reward for the victory.
