We’re hiring for two exciting roles and looking for people who are collaborative, organised, people-focused, and passionate about supporting meaningful work that makes a difference in Scotland and beyond.

At the RSE, through the expertise of our Fellowship and the work of our staff, we bring together knowledge, ideas, and people to help address the most important issues facing Scotland and the wider world.

We currently have two opportunities to join our purpose-driven team:

What impacts have industrial decarbonisation had in Scotland so far? 🔋

Scotland has the potential to lead the world in low-carbon energy and industry, but requires bold and clear commitments from all levels of government to support this change. This roundtable summary from the RSE and IChemE explores what challenges and opportunities industrial decarbonisation presents for Scotland – particularly in relation to skills – and discusses what should be done to address them: https://rse.org.uk/programme/advice-paper/industrial-decarbonisation-and-skills-in-scotland/

Schools, don't forget to submit your classroom's entries for our competition celebrating 300 years since James Hutton, renowned Scottish scientist, was born.

Update: Due to widespread interest, the competition for P6–S3 is open to ALL schools in Scotland. ✨

🗓️ Competition deadline: Monday 25 May
🏆 Prizes on offer for winning pupils and their schools

Hutton was one of the many great minds of the Scottish Enlightenment. His interests spanned agriculture, medicine, and chemistry – but it was his pursuits in geology that led to Hutton's biggest contributions to science. To prove some of his ideas in geology, Hutton embarked on a series of trips around Scotland, enlisting his close friend to illustrate his thoughts in the form of sketches and water colours.

In this creative and reflective activity, pupils will take inspiration from Hutton's drawings to reimagine the world in 300 years time.

Schools can download our competition pack with information on how to get involved, the prizes on offer and printable templates, plus a downloadable resource about James Hutton.
