We are excited to announce the launch of a brand new class here at Mud Station!

For the first time ever in our studio's history we will be hosting pottery painting classes on the last Friday of every month starting from June onwards. These classes are ran by and for q***r, creative and like-minded individuals, creating a safe space and an opportunity to get people chatting.

Each class will be a 2 hour long session of decorating, designing and painting a unique piece that is one of a kind. You will be provided with a stoneware bowl, plate or mug (or two if you're quick!) to paint with a selection of gorgeous glazes and then get to take your piece home and use approximately two weeks after your class (Each piece will be fully functional after firing meaning it will be dishwasher and microwave safe and ready for daily use!).
Each session will host up to 10 people, get in contact with us to reserve your spot!

Jo Walker was back at Mud Station last weekend for a fantastic two-day sgraffito master class workshop. It was great having her teach us both the theory and all of the practical skills. Students learned everything about tools, materials, and best practices to develop skills and working on their own unique style.

From our potters:
"Thank so much! It was great to meet so many people interested in pottery and ceramics! Also learn a bunch of new things!"
"It’s was such a lovely weekend. I can’t wait to see everyone’s work. I learned loads and think I’ve acquired a new addiction! I think I’ll be sgraffito (ing) a lot."
"Thank you so much Jo for a great weekend. It was wonderful to spend 2 days being creative and learning new skills in such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I think you have inspired us all to keep exploring sgraffito."
"It was as a great weekend and a fab workshop. Thanks for sharing your expertise and inspiring us all to try out new techniques."

We’re planning to make this an annual event so contact us if you are interested.

Out of hundreds of photos it's really difficult to pick up a few that would fully capture the level of fun we had. As always SPA AGM weekend was filled with learning, music, catching up, great food and laughter.
Our awesome demonstrators, this year it was and were answering tones of questions, sharing tips and solutions, letting us expand our understanding of the clay, the most tricky of all materials.

Even the weather wasn't as bad as the forecast predicted.
Millport is starting to feel like a very familiar and happy place for all of us. See you all in 2027!

Visiting one's past is such a weird, dissonant experience.
You see all the mistakes you've made, the shortcuts you shouldn't have taken, haste decisions and absence of knowledge. Lack of proportions balanced with eagerness, and piles of arrogance everywhere. It's there, visible for everyone who has eyes, and yet, all what was awesome about it speaks louder than any objective criticism you have for your younger self.
You see making things instead of thinking of making them over and over again, you see freedom rooted in child-like ignorance and you see joy.
Longing for those days, glazes, people, feelings, long gone projects to continue, to come back, to stay.

I'm visiting my home town, the place I left for Edinburgh almost 15 years ago, and for the first time ever I'm wondering what my pottery would look like if I hadn't moved away. Who would I be collaborating with? Where would I be getting my clay from? Would I have anyone to woodfire with?

The bottles in this photo are part of my long gone past but I like them more than anything I've made during the last six months. They were a promise I made to myself. Promises I have kept.
I think I need to start making myself promises again, this time a different kind.

I’m running a masterclass in Edinburgh May 30-31 2026
Bookings are live on my website (there’s a link in my bio).
Lots of you have asked if I teach workshops and masterclasses, so if you want to learn how I make my pots here’s your chance.
Usually I wait to be invited by a ceramics studio but for this one I asked my friend Sylwia at Pottery if she would host me. I’m also doing one for her students at the beginning of July.

One-offs are back!

We are happy to inform that our one-off taster pottery wheelthrowing sessions are back.
For Christmas time we’ve put 10 of these sessions available as gift cards, so you can surprise your loved ones who also love pottery.
We will teach you the fundamentals of wheelthrowing: centring, opening, pulling up the walls – the stages every pot is born from. Having small groups allow us to give you as much attention as you need, so you can finish the session with your own creation. At the end of the session, you will also pick the glaze you’d like your pieces to be finished with, as we take care of all the rest: trimming, glazing and firing.

What’s included?
2.5h session for up to 3 people, materials and firings.
Sessions are available to be booked from February 2026 on Saturdays at 11:00am

This year asked a lot of me. Most of my days were spent working on the new Mud Station home — building, fixing, shaping, dreaming — which meant I didn’t get to make as many pots as my heart wished.

But sometimes the creation happens in the unseen places: the foundations, the inner shifts, almost impossible work that feeds everything else.
As the year closes, I’m feeling that cycle turning and its quiet renewal on the way.

Before we step into the new year, I’ll be joining Lunar Midnight Market on December 1st (5pm–midnight) — our one and only market of the year.

I’m excited to share the night with so many talented makers, artists, and creatives who’ve been pouring their own magic into this season.

I’d love to share this moment with you.
