Custom Lane Co-working will be taking a short summer break. 🌞

Our co-working space will be closed from July 21st, reopening in the first week of September, as we're thrilled to welcome Edinburgh Art Festival into the building.

For the month, our gallery and co-working spaces will become part of this year's festival programme, filled with exhibitions, events and creative activity.

Thank you to our wonderful co-working community for your understanding—we can't wait to welcome you back in September.

✨ Resident Spotlight: STUDIO NIRO

At Custom Lane, we're fortunate to be home to STUDIO NIRO, a multidisciplinary design practice working across architecture, interiors, exhibitions, graphic identity, and object design.

Their work is driven by a careful consideration of material, form, and detail, creating spaces and objects that are both beautiful and deeply connected to their physical and cultural context.

With a portfolio spanning hospitality, arts, heritage, education, and residential projects, STUDIO NIRO has shaped some of Edinburgh's most-loved spaces, including The Little Chartroom, , and .

We're always inspired by the thoughtfulness and craft that underpin their work and are delighted to have them as part of the Custom Lane community.

We are thrilled to host Inclusive Heritages at Custom Lane.

Inclusive Heritages is the culmination of Kirsty Watt's PhD research, which explores inclusivity and accessibility within heritage buildings. The exhibition presents best-practice drawings, example building applications, material samples, and two case studies showcasing heritage buildings that Kirsty has worked on.

Through research and practical examples, the exhibition highlights approaches to making historic buildings more inclusive while respecting and preserving their architectural significance.

We’re delighted to invite you to an evening of conversation with artist Daniel Freytag and Architect Gunnar Groves-Raines.

​Set within the context of Daniel’s exhibition of paintings, Made by Land & Sea, this discussion will explore process and making, exploring how the works are developed, the ideas and references that shape them, and the relationship between artistic and architectural practice.

​Daniel and Gunnar will reflect on inspiration, experimentation, and the thinking behind their work, offering insight into the ways creative ideas evolve from concept to finished form.

Daniel Freytag

Made by Sea shifts focus to coastal and industrial landscapes — harbours, docklands and shorelines shaped by trade, labour and movement over time.

Presented at Custom Lane in Leith, itself part of the historic port, the exhibition brings land and sea together — connecting remote rural histories with the industrial shoreline through the traces people leave behind.
