RAMM (Royal Albert Memorial Museum) Exeter’s world-class museum has fascinating displays and galleries, fabulous exhibitions and modern amenities.

Exeter’s world-class museum has stunning displays and galleries, with fabulous changing exhibitions. The displays reveal Devon and Exeter’s rich history and global connections. Exotic animals, birds and insects delight children, and the world cultures galleries display stunning items from all over the world. RAMM is open Tuesday 10.30am to 5pm, Wednesday-Sunday 10am to 5pm. RAMM is closed Mondays, New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

We're delighted to announce that Art Fund has stepped in to save 22 artworks from the Dartington Hall Collection for the nation, providing an exceptional grant to fund a joint acquisition by RAMM and The Box Plymouth.

The collection of works by leading British Modernist artists has been acquired in its entirety.

The works have previously been on public display together at the Elmhirst Heritage Centre and Museum. They are closely associated with Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst and with the cultural history of Dartington, Devon.

The works will be shared across Devon rather than held in one place. The Box and RAMM will develop displays, interpretation, talks and research with Dartington and other Devon partners, so that the collection stays rooted in the place and cultural history it came from.

Have you ever wondered how a museum works? Well, the Future Skills programme brings you the opportunity to step behind the scenes of RAMM and find out!

With 10 workshops delivered over 10 weeks by our very own heritage sector professionals, this is a chance to learn from those working in the industry now.

Future Skills is open to all applicants aged 16 and over (no upper age limit).

The programme will run from January to the end of March 2027, with all sessions taking place in person at RAMM on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 4.30pm.

Sámi artist Hilde Hauan Johnsen has travelled from Sápmi, Norway, in the Arctic region to show her artwork in RAMM’s exhibition Living Labyrinths: Art and Fungi 🍄

For Hilde’s first public talk in the UK this Sunday, she discusses her fungi-dyed textiles alongside a philosophical approach to making and ecology with Exeter-based artist Amy Shelton.

Hilde is a textile artist based in Northern Norway whose artistic practice is rooted in the land where she lives. Johnsen works with natural dyes from foraged plants and fungi.

She uses these materials to interrogate the concept of national borders. In Johnsen’s work, natural dyeing becomes a way of holding landscape and memory together.

Amy Shelton is a visual artist and founder of Honeyscribe, a visual arts charity that leads creative projects centred on people, plants, and the natural world. Amy creates botanical artworks of plants which she gathers and preserves.

This event is part of a programme of events inspired by RAMM’s exhibition Living Labyrinths: Art and Fungi
