Rust & Tether

Rust & Tether This work is inspired by harbour edges — rusted chains, worn rope, and the things left behind when tides move on. More work coming soon.

I’m interested in what gets overlooked, used up, and weathered — and how it still holds beauty.

I appreciate all the support.⬇️

If you come across a post a wee like or share would be appreciated, it doesn't take much and would mean a great deal for my page in terms of growth.

For example, you can see from two of my posts the combined views are 425. That would be amazing in terms of likes and/or shares.

However, this ISN'T reflected in the likes or shares! So to help me grow a wee tap of the finger would be braw. ✌🏼

Rust and Tether is an ongoing body of work exploring the overlooked materials of Scotland’s coastal harbours and beaches, with a particular focus on Fife.

'Harbour series 1'

I’m not the best at photographing my own work, but I wanted to share this while it’s still in progress.
This is the first piece in a new harbour series — an exploration of weathered surfaces, salt-soaked timber and the quiet tension between decay and warning. I’m really leaning into texture here — the grain of the wood, the rusted hinges, the layered paint, and the stark graphic sign cutting through it all.
40cm x 40cm
Mixed media on canvas — acrylic, charcoal and crayon.
It’s not finished yet, but it’s close. I’ll be adding final details and depth over the next few days.
If you’re interested in this piece, feel free to message me — I’m happy to speak with early collectors before the final reveal.
More from the harbour series coming soon.

I took a trip to Crail Harbour with my phone camera and a head to clear!

There is something about the weathered wood, rust-streaked metal, tangled ropes and salt worn stone.

Exactly the kind of 'beautiful-ugly' coastal character that's great to paint.

The working corners. The textured shaped by tide and time. The bits most people walk past.

I've narrowed it down to a few favourites that I think would make strong paintings, but I'd really love your input.

Which would you like to see me start first?
Close up textures or wider Harbour scene?

And most importantly would there be interest in this kind of coastal harbour series?

Your feedback genuinely helps me shape what I work on next, so please let me know what you think.
