The Filey Museum

The Filey Museum Please note Sat opening 14.00 - 17.00: Small museum exhibiting artifacts showing life in the Old Town of Filey, a north Yorkshire coast fishing community.

In the late 1960s the two cottages which house the museum, were declared unfit for human habitation and were due to be demolished. However, the Filey Urban District Council, which owned the building at the time, invited the Filey Local History Society to establish a museum collection on the premises. The building, a Grade II listed building, was originally two single storey cottages with a thatch

ed roof, and is the oldest domestic building in Filey, as shown by the date 1696 above one of the doors. The museum is situated in the older part of town, in Queens Street, which has previously been called Fisherman's Road, Main Street, King Street. There is a small admission charge. Ask for concessions for children and seniors
