🥳 Phase 1A - Complete 🙌🏻😀

With the installation of the 3x interpretation panels at the new village shelter, the ICSG are happy to announce that Phase 1A of the Heritage Trail project is now officially complete 👏🏻

Thanks to:
1) Foyer Design for developing and creating the 3x panels over the past few months including the new Heritage Trail map and panels detailing the history of the old Cairnbulg railway station site. These look great 😊 🗺️
2) David Buchan Snr and Eunice Stephen who spent countless hours researching and collating the information for use in the panels 📚🖊️
3) Alexander Buchan & Son, Bespoke Joinery and Flat Roof Specialists for installing these panels last week 🪛
4) Banff and Buchan Crown Estate Coastal Communities Fund who awarded the grant funding 💰

The images below show how far the Heritage Trail project has come over the past 12 months, transforming a derelict site into a community space for use as the start/end point of the new trail 😀🚶🏼‍♂️‍➡️🚶🏽‍♀️‍➡️

📸 Wildlife Photo’s Required 🦆 🌿

Grey Heron, Oyster Catcher, Gannets, Kittiwake, Dunnlin, Red Shank, Cormorants 🦅

As part of the heritage trail we're installing an information panel at Cairnbulg beach/Waters of Philorth as part of an official ‘Stopping Point’ on the route.

The sub-committee are looking for photos of local wildlife captured in the local area to be included. If you're keen to have your images included on the panel please post on here and if they are chosen, we'll get back in touch for JPEG format and acknowledgement information 😀

🌿We need your input!! 👉🏻🌿

What would you like done, if anything, with the area behind the whisky barrel train planters? 🚂

It definitely needs some attention 👩🏼‍🌾🪏 but were keen to establish if you have any suggestions or ideas on what best to do with the bit of waste ground? 🤔

It could be as simple as just making sure the grass is cut more regular or perhaps you have bigger aspirations for the area now that the question has been asked?

Weve been playing with AI and came up with the below suggestions as a starting point so let us know if you like any of the proposals or if you have your own unique idea 🤖

Any comments will help the sub-committee form a future plan for the site if there is an appetite for change 😀

If you have any particular names of trees/shrubs/plants you would like to see planted then please let us know as well.

🚲 Bike Repair Stand & Sheffield Stands 🚴 🔐

As part of the ICSG’s grant application to the NESFLAG Coastal Communities Fund, we were successful securing money to purchase a Turvec Bike Repair and Maintenance stand & 4x Sheffield stands to support cyclists visiting the area - hopefully a more common appearance once the Fraserburgh to Cairnbulg cycle path project is delivered by the Invercairn Community Council 🛣️ 🤞🏻

The good news is that the equipment has now arrived and will be put in storage until the sub-committee decide the best place to install them at the old Cairnbulg Railway Station 🚂 📍

Bike Repair Stand includes:
Screwdriver 🪛
Hex Key Set
Torx Key Set
Flat Spanner 🔧
Adjustable Spanner
Tyre Levers
Pump 🛞 🌬️

✨Trivia Question - ANSWER✨

Back in January, we asked our followers if anyone knew what the cement column located at the old Cairnbulg Railway Station 🚉 was used for? 🤔

Out of all the responses, only one person; Denise, got the answer correct…. 🤓👏🏻

For those still scratching their heads, watch the video below for the reveal 🤯😀

🚨 🤐Spoiler Alert 🤫🚨

The ICSG teamed up with Andrew Ballantyne Sculpture’s to create a bespoke stainless steel lamp 💡 that ties back to the historical railway heritage of the Cairnbulg Railway Station, mounted back on the original column.

Big thanks to Andrew, who spent his valuable time while home from offshore making this🧑‍🏭 Best of all, he very kindly provided his time fabricating this piece for FREE as his in-kind contribution towards the project as a goodwill gesture since he stays in the village 🙌🏻👏🏻

It looks great, and im sure you will all join me in thanking Andrew in the comments below 👇🏻

A solar led light has been added so be sure to check out the lamp in the day and night to enjoy both perspectives 🌙 ☀️

More photos of the new lamp will be added to the FB page over the next few days 📸

📋Survey Results 📊

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the ICSG’s latest survey regarding the proposed installation of a feature granite wall along the platform. We had a fantastic response, with over 70 participants sharing their views and feedback within the 48 hour period the survey was open 🙌🏻😀

We’re pleased to report that the majority of respondents expressed strong support for the idea, so the sub-committee will now move forward with developing a funding application in an attempt to secure money to deliver this phase.

Thank you again for your engagement and continued support - wish us luck 🍀 🤞🏻

🚂 🌺Whisky Barrel Train Planter 🌺 🥃

The whisky barrel train planters, funded through a ‘Lucky Square’ competition in February 2025, have now been installed after volunteers from the community spent this morning landscaping an additional area next to the old Cairnbulg Station Platform to provide a permanent home for these 🚉

Thanks again to Highland Coo Barrels for creating these planters and to South Percyhorner Farm Shop for storing these, free of charge, over the past year at the Farm 🚜

Special thanks to the squad of helpers, who very kindly gave up 4 hours of their weekend to assist - it was a fair shift 🪏- but its a great show of community spirit and well worth it after seeing the final result! 👏🏻 👏🏻

Bedding plants 🌷 🌹 will be added in the Spring time so will add a splash of colour to the site soon 🔜

For now, lets appreciate the transformation 😀

The sub-committee have developed a short survey to find out the public’s views on installing a memorial wall along the side of the platform as part of the last landscaping idea for the Cairnbulg Railway Station site.

We would love if you took a few minutes of your time to provide your feedback by clicking on the survey link above 😀☺️

✨This one’s special………

The ICSG are delighted to share with you all an image of the new ‘Cairnbulg’ sign, which has been carefully recreated to replicate the original sign that once stood at the station 🚉

A huge thank you to the local businesses who came together to make this happen. Your craftsmanship, time, and generosity have helped bring an important piece of Cairnbulg’s past back to life for everyone to enjoy……… the best part, they did all this for FREE after hearing about the ‘Invercairn Heritage Trail’ project and the plan to transform the derelict site into a community space 👏🏻👏🏻

☺️ Special thanks to:

🪵 North East Timber Supplies who kindly donated the high quality wood for the sign. Its greatly appreciated!! 😃
👨‍🏭 GSD fabweld for fabricating the 9x letters based on the original sizes- these look great and im sure it took a lot of time to create and cut - we are very humbled 👍🏻
David Heron for spending time sourcing the correct colour to tie in with the original sign and donating the paint🪜🖌️🎨

Alexander Buchan & Son, Bespoke Joinery and Flat Roof Specialists deserve a huge amount of praise for then pulling this all together and creating the sign over the past few weeks 🪚🔨 The Invercairn Gala have been very lucky to work alongside Stuart and his team as part of Phase 1A of the project and cant recommend them enough for the kindness and generosity shown.

We are so grateful to the businesses/people named above for providing this special gift to the villages of Cairnbulg and Inverallochy ☝️

Projects like this remind us what can be achieved when our community works together 💙

Lets make sure we share our gratitude by thanking them in the comments 😃
