Our February talk is from Chris Levett who has a self-proclaimed passion for hops and fruit farming. His family have been farming hops and fruit in Kent and Sussex for well over 250 years. He grew up on a hop and fruit farm and spent most of his school holidays helping on his parent's farms. Kent used to be the 'Garden of England' and for Frittenden hops were a major crop - but sadly no longer, our last hop garden went in the early 1970s. Whilst there is much evidence around the village of the hop industry, there are fewer and fewer people remaining who have the memories of the great tales and traditions that grew up over time.
I hope you will be able to join us on Tuesday 25th February in the Memorial Hall at 8pm for what promises to be an interesting talk on the history of hops and hop-picking.
