⚓ Cruise Update – Good News! ⚓
As many of you will have seen, the Canal & River Trust temporarily closed the River Weaver last weekend to vessels requiring bridge swings due to concerns over the exceptionally high temperatures. Unfortunately, this meant we had to cancel all of our sailings and remain at Anderton Boat Lift.

We're pleased to report that following successful bridge swing tests yesterday, the River Weaver has now reopened to navigation.

As a result, we do need to make a small change to this Saturday's planned cruise.
Instead of sailing from Sutton Weaver to Anderton Boat Lift, we'll now be operating a circular cruise from Anderton Boat Lift, turning at Acton Bridge before returning to Anderton Boat Lift. All passengers who have already booked have been contacted by email with details of the change.

There is some good news too! As the cruise will now both start and finish at Anderton Boat Lift, there's no need for a coach transfer. Simply park at Anderton Boat Lift and your car will be right there waiting for you when you return.

If you'd like to join us for a relaxing afternoon aboard The Danny, we'd love to welcome you on board. Tickets are still available: https://thedanny.digitickets.co.uk/event/27373390

*****IMPORTANT NOTICE*****
This weekends trips have all been cancelled.
See email below that has been sent to all cstomers who had booked on trips this Saturday, Sunday and BH Monday.

Dear passengers,

Late this afternoon, Canal & River Trust informed us that they are once again, closing the River Weaver to any river traffic requiring the bridges to be swung. They have advised that this is due to the extreme heat conditions. Their official closure notice wording is included below for your information.
The Met Office forecast for Frodsham & Acton Bridge shows temps of between 21-22 Degrees on Saturday and 23-24 Sunday. We do not require bridges on BH Monday.

We are absolutely devastated by this news.
This is such an important year for Danny’s financial survival, and we fully understand how disappointing and frustrating this cancellation will be for everyone affected.

Please accept our heartfelt apologies for the inconvenience and upset this will cause to your plans.

If you would like to request either a transfer to another date or a full refund, please reply directly to your email, at [email protected] and I will begin processing all requests over the weekend.
Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and continued support of Danny.
With sincere apologies,
Andrea & the Danny team.

Due to the current spell of hot weather, we are experiencing issues that are affecting the operation of swing bridges on the Weaver Navigation. High temperatures can impact bridge mechanisms, and for safety reasons we are temporarily unable to operate these bridges.
This restriction only affects boats that normally require a booking for the bridges to be swung. If your boat is able to safely travel under the bridges without them being swung, this notice does not affect you.
Our teams are monitoring conditions daily, carrying out regular temperature checks, and reviewing the situation closely. As soon as temperatures reduce and it is safe to do so, we will provide a further update and reopen the bridges for navigation.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to boating plans.

On this coming Bank Holiday Monday, we offer two cruises, a 90 minute out and back to Eastham Locks from Ellesmere Port and then a 4 hour trip to Sutton Weaver via Runcorn. Something for everyone's budget.
Bank Holiday 25th May.
First trip: National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port → National Waterways Museum, turning at Eastham Locks. 10:00 – 11:00
£25.00pp
https://thedanny.digitickets.co.uk/event/27369107
Ellesmere Port was founded in 1795 with the completion of the Ellesmere Canal, linking the River Mersey to the national canal network. Originally known as Whitby Wharf, it grew around docks designed by William Jessop and Thomas Telford, before becoming a major industrial centre following the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894.
Just northwest of our departure point lies Mount Manisty, a prominent man-made hill formed from excavated material during the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal between 1887 and 1894. Named after Edward Manisty, the contractor’s agent for the Eastham section, it stands between the canal and the River Mersey near Eastham.
From Mount Manisty, the route reaches the final straight of the Manchester Ship Canal, with Eastham Locks visible on the west bank. Passing several historic berths, including the former Crane Berth, ships once had their masts and funnels removed here to pass under bridges further inland. Today, these berths remain in use for lay-by, cargo handling, and ship bunkering. We turn before the locks and head back to our berth at Telford Quay.
Easy transport :
We recommend parking at the National Waterways Museum car park, which is free of charge. Easily accessible by train, with a nearby station. Please note that access to the Danny at Ellesmere Port is via a steep gangway, please bear this in mind when booking for your group.

12/05/2026

Knutsford Little Theatre have kindly donated 40 tickets to a performance of John Godber & Jane Thornton's play 'Shakers' and the proceeds will be donated to support The Danny Steamship. Performance time is 19:30 - 22:00 on Thursday 21st May 26.

The play tells the story of a typical night in a wine bar (aptly named Shakers) as four waitresses; Carol, Adele, Nicky and Mel struggle through their long shift, serving demanding customers who come and go on their night out.

In a not-so-chic London bar called Shakers, we meet Carol, Adele, Nicky and Mel, four friends who have taken to waitressing in desperation but who also have wit and resilience enough to never let any of the colourful characters they come across escape their satire unscathed. In theatrically heightened moments, the women play the roles of men and women alike, covering not only their nights at Shakers but also the lives of four other working women in London. Always at the source of their satire are the men who take them for granted or, worse, abuse them. Against this backdrop of postmodern London life are kaleidoscopic scenes of hilarity and depravity. In intertwining plot threads we follow the waitresses as they confront a possible new owner for the bar and at the same time we follow four shopgirls getting ready for a night on the town. Tart-tongued and irreverent, the lives of all of these women are put in painful perspective by the doubling of their roles which draws attention to the economic and social prejudices affecting all women, not just the fighters we meet at Shakers.

Four struggling waitresses try to have a go of it against their customers, bosses and dates alike, using humour, role playing and all out rage to ward off the hopelessness that was Thatcher’s London.
