Dollcraft
Thursday 18 June 2026 1-9pm

Dollcraft is a ‘crafternoon’ of q***r creativity and community brought to you by North East trans drag collective Dollhaus at Vane gallery. Make your own piece to express yourself: bunting, pennants, placards, t-shirts, tote bags, and more. Throughout the day local talent will be sharing their knowledge and skills. Whether you want to celebrate or protest, there will be something for you to take away. All materials will be provided but if you have a special clothing item you want customised then bring it along! Activities will be suitable for all ages. In the evening, from 5pm, we will be hosting a community celebration in the Orbis Community courtyard with a pay bar available!

Dollcraft is part of OUT North East’s Summer of Pride Festival. Taking place over June for official Pride Month, Summer of Pride Festival brings colour, creativity and connection to Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead. It’s a bold, joyful celebration of LGBTQ+ communities - and everyone is welcome.

A big thank you to everyone who came to the preview reception for ‘Moments of Wonder’ on Wednesday 4 March 2026.

Mike Collier works across a number of media and often in collaboration with artists, poets, musicians, composers, and natural historians. His work is based on a close observation of, and engagement with, the more-than-human world. Collier’s love of poetry is wide ranging, and he has recently made work influenced by classical Persian poetry, which describes the beauty of the night sky, the vastness of creation, and the insignificance of human life. The exhibition continues until Saturday 28 March 2026.

Shape Exhibition
Monday 23 – Saturday 28 February

As part of the first Shape Youth Festival, Vane hosts a vibrant exhibition of work by young artists from across Gateshead featuring artwork from schools, community groups and students.

Exhibits will include artwork created by students from Thorp Academy as part of a Riverside Routes project taking inspiration from the historic Gibside estate, Rowlands Gill, Gateshead. There will also be work by the Emerald Explorers Photoclub and textile work by pupils at St Alban’s Primary School. A selection of artwork from students based at Orbis Community and Gateshead College will also be on display.

Shining a spotlight on the wealth of creativity happening across the borough, Shape’s very first Youth Festival will showcase the artistic talent of our children and young people. The festival will feature a programme of new events, designed and delivered by young people including music, dance, textiles, photography and exhibitions as well as promoting existing opportunities taking place in Gateshead over February half term.

The festival is funded and supported by North East Combined Authority, North East Museums, Gateshead Cultural Education Partnership and Gateshead Council’s Arts Team.

A big thank you to everyone who came to the preview reception for ‘Between Dialogues’ on Wednesday 4 February. ‘Between Dialogues’ is an exhibition that aims to demonstrate how eclectic art voices can speak to each other through common cultural, theoretical and practical references. Presented as part of The Northern Arts Gala, the four artists are currently studying together at The Northern School of Art, Hartlepool, for their MA Arts Practice. They represent a small, tight-knit collective whose work environment lends itself well to the ongoing conversations that permeate through artistic processes. Though each has their own unique style, spanning different mediums, their interests, research and thought processes often naturally link-up, creating lines of significance between them.

The exhibition continues until Saturday 7 February 2026.

A big thank you to everyone who came to the preview reception for ‘From Tyne to Kamo’ on Wednesday 28 January. ‘From Tyne to Kamo’ is conceptualised and produced by members of Low Res Collective, a north-east based association of early career artists whose goal is to create frameworks and opportunities for collective members and emerging local creatives.

This project is a cross-cultural creative exchange joining artists based in Tyneside, England, and Kyoto, Japan, that seeks to represent culture and identity within urban spaces in a non-institutionalised fashion. Exhibiting artists have endeavoured to source inspiration from their respective cities to portray cross-cultural zeitgeists, culminating in two sister exhibitions, one showing at Vane, England, and the other at Art Spot Korin, Japan.

The exhibition continues until Saturday 31 January 2026.
