Many thanks to our good friend & exceptional local stone carver Tony of LOST in STONE for creating and gifting to the Moorforge site this fantastic sandstone carving of one of the 12th century Lewis chessmen the commonly known “berzerker”, considered one of the most significant Viking era finds, the original figures were carved from walrus ivory & whales teeth. Discovered 1831 on the coast of the Isle of Lewis, thought to be originally carved in Trondheim,Norway.

Tony is holding a stone carving course at Moorforge Viking settlement site on the 16th & 17th of May

Thankyou so much to everyone who came along to the 2026 Moorforge Craft Festival!

We are so grateful for this wonderful community of craftsfolk, musicians & visitors that want to support each other in keeping heritage craft techniques practised for the future generations to come!

It was such a wholesome weekend, where craftsfolk and visitors could be immersed in an authentic environment of natural sustainable materials and interact with folk that are passionate about sharing their knowledge about ancient crafts.

Saturday evening, the long house was packed full of wonderfully talented folk musicians, the fire was roaring 🔥 with a vibrant energy, which was about as wholesome as it gets.

We can’t wait for the craft festival 2027✨

A huge thankyou to everyone who contributed to this magical event!
You are our energy and inspiration to keep this wonderful community spirit growing!

Bjarni is almost ready to go. Come and see him and loads of other crafters at the Moorforge Craft Festival 2026 , this Bank Holiday weekend. Bjarni will be doing coin striking, his famous Physics of Weapons demonstration, and leading young warriors into battle against each other.

All I've done is empty the van and dump it in the tent, ready for tomorrow. But, even now, this feels like home. Can't wait for tomorrow and the first day of the Moorforge craft festival at Moorforge Viking Settlement .
