Final week of Barbie: The Exhibition!
It’s almost time to say goodbye to Barbie: The Exhibition, which finishes on Sunday 18 October.

It has been a fabulous summer and we’ve loved seeing you all enjoy the exhibition as much as we’ve enjoyed hosting it!

For some dates in this final week, ticket availability is getting low and we expect several days to sell out.

We highly recommend buying tickets in advance for your last chance to enjoy this wonderful whirl around the iconic world of Barbie 💖

🎨 Great news! Funding secured for a third year! 🎉

Thanks to the William Syson Foundation, Glasgow Life are one of three Scottish arts organisations benefiting from their Travel Fund initiative.

Eligible secondary Art and Design departments have the opportunity to access:

🚍 Free travel to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

🎨 Artist-led workshops.

💡 Critical Studies in Art skills development using our world-class collections as inspiration.

Over 1,200 pupils have already taken part in this fantastic opportunity at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

📍 Open to secondary schools in Glasgow City, Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire only.

📅 Visits available October – June.

Join Tony Lewis, Curator of Scottish History, for a short talk exploring the Art Extraordinary collection, donated by Scotland’s pioneering professional art therapist Joyce Laing.

Laing was drawn to art she believed was created through compulsion, and the collection places mental health care, art therapy and creativity at its core.

One of our most recent redisplays, John Glassford and his Family: A New Interpretation - The Story of the Unseen Child, shines a light on a powerful hidden history.

Once obscured beneath centuries of dirt, the figure of a young Black child - enslaved by Glasgow to***co lord John Glassford - was uncovered in 2007.

However, little is known about who the enslaved child was, his name or his life. This raises questions around whose histories are recorded and preserved and how power shapes this.

This free short 20 minute talk by Nelson Cummins, Curator of Legacies of Slavery and Empire, will explore the rehanging of the Glassford portrait in Kelvingrove confronting Glasgow’s historic ties to slavery and challenging how we remember the past.
