On the 100th birthday of Scottish writer Agnes Owens, Kelvingrove are hosting SGSAH-funded PhD researcher, Laura MacDonald, who has been supporting the development of the new The Agnes Owens Archive, housed at The Alasdair Gray Archive.

With the book covers for Owens’ A Working Mother and People Like That designed by Alasdair Gray on display in Kelvingrove, this talk will discuss current research and projects on Owens, the development of her archive, and the programme of events happening throughout 2026, curated by AGA/AOA custodian Sorcha Dallas, which celebrate her life and literary legacy.

We’re proud to introduce two of the newest members of our Autism Ambassador Programme at Kelvingrove - Amy and Lauren.

Our ambassadors are based across all Glasgow Life museum venues, working to support and enhance our autism-friendly offer for visitors. The team includes both Gallery Assistants and Learning Assistants, bringing together a wide range of skills, experience, and understanding.

We’re delighted to have their support as we continue to ensure Glasgow Life Museums are welcoming, inclusive, and truly autism friendly for everyone.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is turning 125.

On 2 May, 125 years ago, we opened our doors for the very first time as part of the 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition.

*Wednesday 22 April: Early closure*
Kelvingrove will close at 2pm on Wednesday 22 April.

The restaurant will close at 1pm and the coffee shop will close at 1.30pm

We’re sorry for any disappointment this planned closure may cause and look forward to welcoming you again soon.

The museum will reopen as normal on Thursday 23 April at 10am.
