Beautiful bluebells out in bloom for May Day/Beltane!

This ancient festival is more known today as May Day, but previously as Beltane, Beltaine or Bealtaine depending where you are in the British Isles and Ireland. On the first day of May, it was common to have fires burn to celebrate the Sun god Bal/Bel, to mark the transition of Spring into Summer. Feasting and dancing around the bonfire welcomed in the new season.

The museum area has had a Spring upgrade! Tiny Victorian fairy furniture, vintage decorative eggs and a few of my own creations displayed for our Easter weekend. Lots to celebrate this Spring, with new life popping up everywhere.....flowers, lambs, nests being built by busy birds....we are surrounded by such natural beauty here.

New year, new sign! I had fun over the festive break making a woodland collage, from old book iliustrations, to enhance the fairy museum within .

Crooked Fairy Hill comes from the Gaelic 'Monadh Chamaisidh' which is known today as the Campsie Fells, where the museum is located.

Some Winter evening reading that I am enjoying at the moment. I find it fascinating that we still use so many ancient sayings and ideas from old folklore in modern speech. 'One for Sorrow" by Chloe Rhodes.

'The Fairy of Beauty' is a special exhibit on display this December at The Crooked Fairy Hill Museum in Magpie Maison.

The exquisite costume was worn by Micaela Greganti in Scottish Balletโ€™s celebrated 1994 production of โ€˜The Sleeping Beautyโ€™. Designed by the internationally renowned Jasper Conran, this remarkable costume captures the grace, poise, and magic of the ballet.

We are honoured to display this piece, generously on loan from Angela McLean. Whether you are a ballet enthusiast, a lover of costume design, or simply seeking a touch of festive wonder, this exhibit offers a rare chance to get up close to a piece of modern ballet history.

New to me book, perfect bedtime reading on a subject that I don't know enough about. Perhaps because I don't live near the sea, I forget about the stories and folklore of the coast. Whenever I visit coastal places, I try to visit the magical places and seek out the local tales, there is always so much to learn!

I shall enjoy this read over the Autumn months and dream of seaside visits next year.
