Golfers call it the yips.
When you know what you’re doing, but your brain gets in the way.

And something about this painting felt that way, even after I’d called it finished for a few weeks.

I finally played around with it and went darker on the water. And now I’m in love. It feels deeper. Calmer.
Like being the first one on the course at sunrise at

Every finished painting deserves a place on the timeline… even a second time around. And so here’s the FINISHED (I mean it this time 😉) “4th Hole at Valderrama”, 24” x 48” oil on canvas.

The chilly weather this morning makes it easy to look back at this warmer spring wedding at CJ's Off the Square a few years ago!

The next few weeks I’ll be in the studio working on a BIG golf course painting, and so I love looking at how these event paintings bring lessons into the studio and vice versa.

Where’s the fun if I only share the final painting?! It’s easy to share the polished and perfect, but in the spirit of the new year…here’s a little glimpse into the beginnings of a painting I’ve been excited about for years. If you’ve ever played a round at .dornoch you know this view.

I knew it had to be BIG, and so I’ve finally been able to carve out a few weeks in the studio just for this one. And I couldn’t be more excited. Stay tuned and follow to see the final painting!

is one of my bucket list golf courses to visit for SO many reasons, including this iconic 4th hole. I used a reference photo by the talented who captured this unique view. Painting it was a challenge..I wanted the green to be interesting with the subtle color changes of the grass, but not overpowering or competing with the waterfall or sunrise. My hope is that you want to walk into this warm, quiet painting and plan your next round. The original painting is 24” x 48” and is currently available.
