Happy 80th Birthday to our neighbour, Waverley Excursions

Looking pretty sprightly for 80, although next to the Glenlee, who turns 130 in December, you’re still just a young whippersnapper!

We love seeing you steam past on your summer sailings and give us a wee toot, and it feels especially fitting to be berthed here at the very site of the Inglis shipyard where you were built.

Here’s to 80 years of steam, stories and sailing, and many more to come!

We invite you to an unforgettable evening of Scottish hospitality and entertainment onboard our historic ship.

Evaluation Consultant opportunity – Sail the Future: STEM at Sea

The Tall Ship Glenlee Trust is looking for an Evaluation Consultant to support Sail the Future: STEM at Sea — an exciting new programme using Glasgow’s maritime heritage to inspire young people in STEM and connect traditional sailing technologies with the future of renewable energy.

Working with our Learning team, local schools and professional engineers, you’ll evaluate the project’s reach, outcomes and impact, using quantitative and qualitative methods.

The commission includes:
• Developing and delivering the evaluation approach
• Student, teacher and engineer feedback
• Data collection, analysis and participant interviews
• A final funder report and recommendations for future STEM learning

Project Officer opportunity – Sail the Future: STEM at Sea

The Tall Ship Glenlee Trust is looking for a Project Officer to help deliver Sail the Future: STEM at Sea — an exciting programme using Glasgow’s maritime heritage to inspire young people in STEM and explore the connection between traditional sailing and the future of renewable energy.

Working with four local primary schools and professional engineers, you’ll lead the co-development and piloting of new, hands-on STEM workshops, ensuring young people have a genuine voice in shaping the programme.

The role includes:
• Training engineers in inclusive communication and active learning
• Leading co-development sessions with participating schools
• Developing four fully resourced, curriculum-aligned STEM workshops
• Leading/observing pilot workshops and refining activities
• Building relationships with schools, engineers and other stakeholders

We’re looking for someone with experience in STEM, education, heritage, museum or science communication, strong project management and facilitation skills, and experience working with schools and young people.

Today we fly the flag to mark Merchant Navy Day, remembering and honouring the service, courage and sacrifice of merchant seafarers, past and present.

For generations, merchant seafarers have played a vital role in keeping our nation supplied and connected with the wider world, often working far from home and facing challenging and dangerous conditions.

Here aboard Glenlee, we are proud to fly the Red Ensign every day. But today, it carries an especially meaningful message. It is a symbol of remembrance, respect and gratitude for the thousands of men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the Merchant Navy.

As we raise the flag today, we remember those who never returned home, honour those who continue to work at sea, and recognise the vital contribution of merchant seafarers to our maritime heritage and our nation.
