Gloster Day is nearly here!

Join us at the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum for two days of live music, a licensed bar and, most importantly, the chance to catch up with old friends and comrades.

Whether you served with the Glosters, have a family connection to the Regiment, or simply fancy coming along and enjoying the atmosphere, everyone is welcome.

2nd Royal Gloucestershire Hussars fought as part of the 22nd Armoured Brigade at the Battle of Alam el Halfa in 1942.

2RGH held a prominent ridge in their Grant tanks. After several days of trying to outflank the British lines Rommel had to withdraw. This would be his last great offensive in North Africa.

Every Wednesday (10am-1pm) during term time we will be offering a vastly reduced rate to those that home educate.

Adult and child entry to the museum will be £1 each so that you can come and learn about 300 years of local and international history. We offer free trails around the museum to help keep your children more engaged and extend their learning further.

Explore the incredible legacy of The Gloucestershire Regiment, known as "The Glosters," a regiment that has proudly served for over three centuries.

From the Battle of Alexandria to their celebrated actions in the Korean War, the Glosters have consistently demonstrated exceptional courage and resilience.

What Makes the Glosters Unique?
• The only regiment in the British Army with the honour of wearing a back badge, symbolizing their valiant stand at the Battle of Alexandria.
• Awarded 72 battle honours during World War I, with 16 battalions serving across multiple theatres of war.
• Known for their heroic stand at the Battle of Imjin River during the Korean War, where they held off overwhelming forces for three days. For this action they were awarded the US Presidential Citation.

After their tercentenary celebration in 1994, the regiment merged with others, but their legacy and traditions live on. Honour their memory and explore their heroic history!

📣 Gloucester Goes Retro is TOMORROW!

If you’re heading into Gloucester for the festivities, make sure you stop by the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum and Back Badge Square.

We’ll have an impressive collection of military vehicles on display, including an M18 Hellcat tank destroyer, plus live music and a licensed bar throughout the day.

Come and see the vehicles, grab a drink, enjoy the music and pay the museum a visit while you’re here!

The museum is sympathetic to the difficulties many schools now have in visiting museums for extra curricular learning. So we have an amazing opportunity to help the issue

We are offering "Handling Boxes" for teachers to help bring your lessons to life. The boxes contain a range of artefacts, replicas, activities and books covering a wide range of ages and abilities. As such these boxes are appropriate for all Key Stages.

The subjects currently covered in four boxes are: Fossils & Dinosaurs, Romans, WWI and WWII. "Handling Boxes" are available for just £25 for a two week period and must be collected from and returned to the museum.

There will be an impressive collection of military vehicles, including the star of the show, an M18 Hellcat tank destroyer.

The museum itself will have a licensed bar and live music, creating a lively atmosphere and making Back Badge Square a great place to stop, explore and enjoy the wider Gloucester Goes Retro celebrations.
