Introducing 'The Bryo-Fight!', my first art project. My aim is to encourage people to take notice of the overlooked members of our ecosystems, slow down and look closer at our Earth, one mossy strand at a time.
Slide 1- Welcome to 'The Bryo-Fight!'. A collaborative art project exploring the overlooked beauty and modest strength of mosses, liverworts and hornworts. Free workshops - All welcome - Materials provided. Remote submissions welcome, deadline September 30th.
Slide 2- Bryophytes (the collective name for mosses, liverworts and hornworts) play a big role in supporting ecosystems, contributing to soil formation, water retention and biodiversity. Just like these fascinating, ancient plants, humans flourish in communities that nurture and support one another. This project invited participants to reflect on themes of mutual care, adaptability and collective strength- what can we learn from bryophytes?
Slide 3- All mediums are welcome for contributions- written, textile, sculpture, photography, whatever you enjoy working with! You don't need to attend a workshop to be part of the project- we welcome contributions made independently: whether you're stitching at home, sculpting in the studio or doodling in a notebook. All submissions inspired by bryophytes are invited.
Slide 4- The creative workshops are open to everyone and designed to be welcoming and hand-on. All materials (and refreshments) will be provided, and no prior experience or booking needed- just curiosity and a willingness to explore the world of bryophytes. A one-off terrarium building workshop for ages 18+ will also be announced soon!
Slide 5- The finished exhibition will be a collective creation: all individual pieces will be joined together to form our very own moss community- a patchwork of creativity, care and connection. Exhibition date and location TBC. Workshop details will be announced very soon- stay tuned for updates!
