This exhibition brings together 22 distinguished international artists showing an eclectic mix of works: domestic in scale but ambitious in content.
It will be an exciting celebration of diverse small scale works, including collage, mixed media, painting and sculpture.
The exhibition has no apparent theme apart from the exuberant content and a condition that the work will be no larger than 60cm x 60cm.

Our neighbours Yarmouth oilskins Est 1898 and I’m not sure the workshop or handmade operation has has changed in all that time. Pur quality. Lovely people who really care about the product. Some new designs for today with the same ethos.

In January 2016, the artist Tom Lamprell’s barn studio in Ringland Hills, Norfolk, burned to the ground. The following day, the Eastern Daily Press ran a story: ‘Artist loses his entire studio,’ reads the headline, ‘and hundreds of paintings in Honingham fire.’ One of the destroyed works had been sold at auction and was wrapped, ready to be shipped.
Ten years later, preparing for his exhibition at South Quay Gallery, Great Yarmouth, Lamprell reflects on how this accident freed him to return to forms of making that predated his commercially successful landscape practice: ‘I started to consider how I might shed some of the cultural, economic and professional expectations attached to painting without giving up the intense commitment to the thing that made those expectations possible in the first place.’ The fire was a transitional moment: an involuntary act of destruction that interrupted one form of practice while opening the possibility of others.
That relationship between accident, destruction and creation runs through the paintings and drawings on display at South Quay Gallery.
