INTRODUCING ALEX REUBEN

I closed the doors for last time after 18 years of Clark in Hale on Saturday. Thank you to all the hundreds of people who came along to see us in our final two weeks. It’s been very emotional and I’ve been overwhelmed by all the good wishes I’ve received from clients, artists and friends of the gallery. I’m now going to enjoy my retirement after 25 years in the art business.

Don’t worry, you will still be able to see great art in Hale. I am pleased to announce that Alex Reuben of Contemporary Six Gallery in Manchester will shortly be taking over the space at 155, Ashley Road, Hale formally occupied by Clark Art.

Alex has run his Gallery in Manchester City centre for the past 14 years and during this period he has built a reputation for being exceptionally knowledgeable with a keen eye for quality art. I am sure you will receive wonderful advice and service whenever you visit Contemporary Six both in Hale and Manchester. Alex will be in contact with you in the near future introduce himself, so please look out for future correspondence from Contemporary Six.

I would like wish to Alex every success with his new venture in Hale and I hope you will support him in the same way you have supported Clark Art over the years.

Best wishes to you all for the future.

Bill Clark.

This is a the last painting to come into the gallery before we closed for the final time yesterday. It’s the magnificent 40” x 48“ “Celebration of Stockport and Manchester” by Phil George. This was a commissioned work and the detail in it is mind blowing. It’s one of the best paintings Phil had ever done.

There is an article on my retirement in today’s Manchester Evening News.

Today is our last day of trading it’s already been very busy in the gallery. We’ve sold nearly 150 paintings so far and there are lots of empty walls. There are still some great paintings available so call in and have a look.

So tomorrow is Clark Art's last trading day. Bill’s retirement I know has come as a shock to many. I have had the upmost pleasure of working alongside Bill for 18 years, in 2006 he inherited me as fixtures and fittings when he opened the Hale gallery.
Bills knowledge and passion for Northern art has been inspiring to many. The amazing exhibitions we’ve done, the books Bill has written, has promoted Northern art all over the world. I personally learn't new skills, worked with highly talented artists, met fabulous clients and made lovely friends, Clark Art is an institution with Bill as the perfect Northern art ambassador. However it’s now time for Bill to retire, he certainly won’t be putting his feet up as his grandson will have other ideas and Bill will be kept busy in his role as grandad.
So from me Thank you Bill for being THE BEST BOSS EVER ! It’s been awesome to spend 18 years with the nicest, fairest most highly regarded dealer in the art-world. I’ve loved my role in Clark Art, you are a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. I like many of the lovely people who have popped in and sent cards wish you the best time in your well-earned retirement.
Cheers and Good Health
Helen

Legendary pastel artist Bob Richardson called into the gallery for probably the last time before we close on Saturday. I’ve sold Bob’s work ever since we opened the gallery in 2006 and he has always been a pleasure to deal with. We sold one of his paintings today, but a number are still available to buy in my Retirement Event.

We are now in the last week of Clark Art after 25 years of trading.

Last week was really busy in the gallery and it was great to see so many clients and friends. I’ve been overwhelmed by all the good wishes I’ve received via email text and social media. I’m sorry I haven’t yet been able to reply to them all.

We’ve sold a lot of paintings in the last week and it’s been really busy this morning. There are still some great works available at reduced prices, plus all the books we’ve published over the years are available free of charge. I hope you’re able to visit us before we close on Saturday for the final time.

After a very busy day in the Gallery today, I went to the opening of Helen Clapcott’s “A Portrait of Stockport” exhibition Stockport Art Gallery. The exhibition is spread over two floors and there are some stunning paintings on display. It’s well worth a visit if you can make it.
