Analogue photography has a kind of intimacy that digital can’t replicate.
Every analogue photograph begins with direct contact: light bouncing off a real subject, hitting film, leaving a physical trace. It’s not just a picture of something — it’s a material imprint from something.

As Walter Benjamin wrote, analogue images carry a unique “aura”: a presence, a here‑ness, a connection to the moment that produced them. In an age of infinite digital reproduction, that aura feels more vital than ever.

You can feel that connection throughout the Royal Photographic Society’s Analogue Special Interest Group exhibition — from silver gelatin to cyanotype, wet plate to salt print. Each work is a reminder that analogue photography is not nostalgia; it’s a living, tactile art form.
Analogue 10 - The Royal Photographic Society Special Interest Group is on in the Photography Gallery until August 2nd
