Places, Elements and the Passage of Time

Our new exhibition featuring Barry Andrews & Gemma Smale.

Open: April 26th — June 7th

Andrews captures the shifting light and atmosphere of the Thames Estuary through layered, expressive painting, while Smale works with wood-fired ceramics, where flame, ash and time leave their mark on each piece.
Two distinct practices shaped by landscape, process and the elements.

Join us and explore their work at the Preview this Sunday from 2-4pm!

NEW WORKSHOP ALERT!

Letter carvers Tom Perkins and Simon Langsdale will be running a six day letter carving course in the beautiful surroundings of Parndon Mill, Harlow from 17th-22nd August 2026.

The course will be suitable for complete beginners or for those who already have experience.

The course will comprise of two parts, beginning with drawn lettering with Tom for three days and then carving with Simon for the last three days.

Tom will be giving a talk on his signature ‘dynamic’ caps, explaining his sources of inspiration and how he developed the forms as well as covering other aspects of drawn lettering. Students will then work on their own drawings, refining them with guidance from Tom until they are ready to begin carving with Simon.

As well as the carving of the inscriptions, Simon will give advice on easels, lighting, carving techniques, how to sharpen chisels and which tools to use and where to get them from.

The course will cost £535.00 per person, which includes use of tools and stone. Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be provided. A fifty per cent deposit is due on booking with the remaining balance due by 1 July.

Please email Simon Langsdale at [email protected] to book and for more information.

Meet Nicky Nunn 👋

This is Nicky's third year based at our Parndon Mill studios. During this time, his practice has continued to grow and strengthen, supported by the opportunities the Mill has provided. Working alongside other creatives in a supportive and collaborative environment has been a steep and rewarding learning curve, while the Mill’s structured links to the wider art world — and the possibilities within it — have proved invaluable.

Nicky’s practice is rooted in drawing and painting. Alongside his personal work, he undertakes commissioned pieces, most often inspired by his love of dogs. These commissions typically take the form of detailed dip pen and ink drawings. Personal projects are always ongoing, and he is currently developing a body of painting work in preparation for an exhibition later this year.

In more current adventures he will be showing work in an upcoming exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London, as part of the Annual Pastel Society Exhibition - make sure to check it out!
