Holland 5 lies upright on the seabed about 6 miles southeast of the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse off Sussex at roughly 30 to 32 metres. She is a legally Protected Wreck and has been on the National Heritage List since 2005. The hull is largely intact. The periscope and the vertical exhaust are gone, likely lost to trawling, and old nets have been cleared by the NAS team. The forward torpedo hatch is now missing after being removed sometime between 2008 and 2010. A virtual diver trail and a 3D photogrammetry model are available for public viewing. The wreck was rediscovered around 2000 and found in very good condition for her age.

She was decommissioned in 1912 and sent for scrapping. On 8 August 1912 she sank while under tow near the Royal Sovereign Bank off Beachy Head. The most accepted cause is simple flooding after the torpedo tube hatch was left open before the tow.

Picture of the French Steamship Frederic Franck .

On this day, Sunday 19th April 1896 the Jane sank, 1miles/1.6 Km south of Royal Sovereign Light, after colliding with the French Steamship Frederic Franck which rescued all the crew, landing them at Antwerp.
She was a British sailing barquentine with a cargo of coal on her way to Portsmouth from Sunderland.
Because she sank in water less than 10 fathoms/60ft/18 meters deep her masts were protruding out of the sea.
The Trinity House steamer The Warden found the wreck and removed the fore and mizzen topmasts before marking the wreck with a buoy and a light, then returned to Ramsgate.
Later Trinity House sent the Triton which arrived in Eastbourne the night of the 24th.
The next morning the divers on The Triton went to the Jane in order to remove the remaining masts with explosive. The divers went down wearing their gear weighing 169 lbs./77kg and laid down the explosives charges at the right place.
