Museum open 11am-4pm every Tuesday from mid- February to December with Steam Days on some Sundays. Children's WaterPark open from Spring to Autumn.

The Waterworks Museum is a thriving industrial heritage museum and one of Hereford's leading attractions, with something for visitors of all ages. This includes an award winning children’s Heritage Water Park and Herefordshire’s only permanent exhibition to life in WW2. It appeals to engineering enthusiasts and families alike. The Museum:

* has operated for the last 45 years in the Victorian water pumping station that served Hereford for 120 years.

* is Independently funded and staffed, managed and run solely by volunteers.

* is home to the UK's oldest working triple-expansion steam engine, and historic beam, gas and diesel engines spanning from the industrial revolution to the present day.

* holds over a thousand archived documents (contracts, catalogues, handbooks, journals, plans and photographs), which our activists are preparing to make available online. Pre-arranged visits to see our archive and public enquiries are welcome by email.

* stocks a select range of souvenirs and gifts in the Museum shop, along with a range of books and educational and other items. More information is available on our website.

* welcomes enquiries for private, family or group visits and can host meetings, conferences, rallies, exhibitions, parties and receptions (great facilities and reasonable rates) in an exclusive venue.

* offers a unique volunteering opportunity for individuals to become involved in a thriving museum - a great way to make new friends and contribute to the maintenance, presentation and promotions of a Museum of national importance.

If you're planning a trip to the Waterworks Museum don't miss the Hereford in World War Two display.

Our evacuee bedroom was designed to bring to mind the heart rendering decisions many families faced when having to send their children to rural areas at the start of WW2. Operation Pied Piper was a Government led initiative which began in September 1939. The bedroom and the artefacts within it show the type of room a child may have slept in for the duration of the war

Our Kitchen/scullery is a mixture of modern and old items typically used across the Victorian era moving into the 1940’s and beyond. Many of the artefacts were treasured items donated by volunteers and visitors. Some have a significant story relating to them.

We're also displaying a range of artefacts specifically relating to military service and WW2. The Home Front is strongly featured with information and documentation on Rationing.

This Sunday (27th September) marks our very last Operating Day of the year!

So why not join us at Hereford’s very own Victorian Pumping Station for what I’m sure will be an action-packed day!

As usual, all engines and displays will be in operation, including our mighty triple expansion engine!

⚙️Stirling Engines and the Busker Organ will also be making a much-missed return!

This Tangye 4V engine was found in a barn being demolished to make way for the HS2 railway in 2019. It was in a dilapidated state in need of restoration. This work was carried out by James Tangye Parker, great grandson of Joseph Tangye, one of the Tangye brothers who founded the famous Tangye Birmingham engineering business known as "Cornwall Works" in Smethwick in in the 1850s.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Prevention (HWFRS) will be at the Waterworks Museum on Tuesday 15th September at 2pm. They will talk about how you can keep yourself safe from fire in your home and the services that HWFRS provides.

Come and join us this Sunday for an Operating Day at the museum, when we'll be open from 11 am- 4 pm.

💧Step inside Hereford’s very own Victorian pumping station, where all engines and displays will be in operation, for the chance to learn about the story of how clean water was provided to the county. Herefordshire Painting Club will be exhibiting their amazing work based on the theme of the museum.

🎨There will also be a very special opportunity to get creative as Creative Juice will be joining us for a thrilling afternoon of Paper marbeling; this will be from 1-3 pm. So if you’re creative, make sure you grab your tickets now, as this will be an opportunity you do not want to miss! (See our previous post for more info).
