🐉⚔️ GATHER YOUR PARTY! A FANTASY ADVENTURE AT THE OLD HOUSE! ⚔️🐉

Adventurers wanted! 🧙‍♂️🛡️

This October half-term, step into a world of fantasy, meet a colourful cast of characters and help assemble the perfect adventuring party! Who will you recruit? A wise wizard? A fearsome warrior? A mysterious rogue? Or perhaps someone a little more unexpected… 👀

Join us at The Old House for a series of fun, interactive performances brought to you by students from HCA, in partnership with HMAG. These talented students always put on an entertaining show, and this is a fantastic opportunity for children (and grown-ups!) to get involved in a little theatrical adventure.

📅 Tuesday 27th October: Performances at 11am, 11:45am, 1pm & 1:45pm
📅 Wednesday 28th October: Performances at 11am, 11:45am, 1pm & 1:45pm

⚠️Please note: The Old House will be unavailable for general viewing until 2:30pm on these dates so why not make the most of your visit and join the adventure?

⏰ Each performance lasts around 20 minutes — just enough time to add a little magic to your October morning!

🎟️ No additional charge! Performances are included with standard Old House admission.

🎁 A little extra treat! Everyone who attends a performance will receive free re-entry to the Old House for the remainder of that week. It's the perfect excuse to come back and take on our Monster Quest Trail — if you dare! 👹

Your quest, should you choose to accept it, is to explore our historic rooms and track down a host of creatures from myth, legend and folklore.

Discover each creature’s origins, strengths and weaknesses as you journey through the Old House. Will your knowledge be enough to survive the encounter?

⚔️ Vikings. Buried treasure. Greed. Crime. Who doesn’t love a story like that?

From today, you can see replicas of the incredible Herefordshire Hoard on display in the Highlights Case at the Old House.

Believed buried around 878 AD and rediscovered near Leominster in 2015, the Hoard is one of the most significant early medieval finds ever discovered in western Britain. What should have been an extraordinary archaeological discovery became the centre of one of the UK’s biggest heritage crimes, with much of the treasure illegally dispersed.

It’s a remarkable Herefordshire story of Vikings, treasure, secrets and greed, and now you can get a closer look at replicas of some of the finds right here in Hereford.

🏛️ The replicas will be in our Highlights Case until 31 January, so pop along and see them, then take the opportunity to explore our wonderful 400-year-old Old House at the same time.

📚 Book of the Month at The Old House 📚

Each month, we spotlight a book we think our visitors will enjoy. This month's choice is Castles of the Marches by John Kinross.

Beautifully illustrated and full of fascinating detail, this engaging book explores the castles of Herefordshire, Shropshire and the Welsh borderlands. From Goodrich Castle to the mighty fortress at Chepstow, it uncovers the stories of the strongholds that shaped this historic region.

With insights into the wider Marcher system, moated manors and Civil War sites, it's a wonderful read for anyone interested in local history.
