As a professional, I prioritise balance with the following considerations:

✨️ Creativity vs. Strategy
Creativity captures attention and tells a story, but strategy ensures the content drives real, measurable results. Balancing the two means my ideas are both engaging and highly effective.

🪙 Commercial vs. Personal Projects
Striking the right mix of paid, client-centred projects and passion projects keeps my skills sharp and relevant while also preventing creative burnout (been there, done that WAY too many times!).

🤝 Business vs. Production
Balancing time spent marketing, invoicing, and networking against actual design or creation time is crucial for long-term sustainability and business growth.

🎨 Visual Equilibrium
In design and art, balance visually distributes weight so the viewer’s eye is naturally guided to the right focal points without feeling overwhelmed or tense.

To master this, both sides of the coin must be considered equally important—recognising that running a creative business is an art form in itself!

I read recently that the opposite of belonging is fitting in.

Much of event planning is focused on becoming characters we project to the world rather than connecting with others as our authentic selves. Creating a team on the basis of 'fake it until we make it' simply puts us all back into the survival mode of high school.

✨How did I get into events? ✨

I was asked to join a community team as a volunteer.

The feeling of not only being included but the impression I BELONGED is one that I have never forgotten. One of the biggest pitfalls of any event, but particularly community events and fundraisers that are volunteer-run, is the oversight that people won't give their time and experience out of a sense of duty.

Volunteers want to believe in the organisation, mission, ethos, leadership and mission. The event should be an extension of the awesome team dynamic, not the other way around!

Nurture the environment of belonging. A sense of team ownership will follow. 🧡💙💚
