Friendly Fridays: Photographic Research

Over the next month, we'll be joined by Liv Pearce who will be researching archival photographs of St Faith's Church, Dorstone Village and village life for the Dorstone Settlement Timeline - and we need your help to identify the people and places depicted.

Join us at Friendly Fridays at Dorstone Village Hall:
β€’ Fri 29 May
β€’ Fri 5, 12, 19 & 26 June
β€’ 10.30am - 12.30pm

And if you have any other interesting photographs you think we should see, please bring them along. Community memories are at the heart of this project.

A new chapter for St Faith's Church πŸ—οΈ

If you've walked past Dorstone Church & Bells recently, you'll know the church is currently closed and building work is well underway.

As part of the Dorstone Settlement Timeline project, St Faith's is undergoing a series of improvements – transforming how the building can be used, not only for worship, but as a welcoming community space for everyone.

The works include energy-efficient heating and lighting, two new toilets, a modern kitchen, and a larger, more flexible space at the rear of the building.

We're also creating a permanent home for the Dorstone Settlement Timeline exhibit – where the story of Dorstone, from Neolithic times to the present day, can be told, explored and celebrated.

The churchyard and footpaths remain open throughout, so please do continue to visit – and we'll keep you updated as the works progress.

Introducing the Dorstone Settlement Timeline ⏳

Dorstone and the surrounding Golden Valley are home to over 6,000 years of extraordinary history – from some of the earliest Neolithic monuments in Britain, through to the ruins of Snodhill Castle Preservation Trust, right up to the village's community of today.

We're a heritage project based at Dorstone Church & Bells, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and we're here to explore and share the stories of this remarkable place, and the people who have shaped it across the generations.

Because heritage doesn’t only exist on display in museums – it's in the landscape you walk through, the churchyard you visit, the village lanes you know by heart.

Watch this space to see everything the project involves: from building works at the church, to free community events, to our plans for a permanent exhibition.

πŸ‘‰ Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with the journey.
