Do you recognise this iconic spot for an ice-cream and a dander around the pier? 🍦

This photograph is from the W. A. Green collection. W. A. Green was a photographer working across Ulster in the late 1800s-early 1900s. He would often take his family with him in his Ford Model T to capture the natural and cultural landscapes of Ireland.

🏁 Now that the chequered flag has waved for this year's NW 200, it’s time to look ahead to another iconic race happening in Ulster…

This weekend, Red Bull is hosting a soapbox race at Stormont. Competitors will race in their homemade soapboxes - the more fun and extravagant the better!

If you ever find yourself building your own soapbox or go-kart, we’d like to submit these vehicles in our collection for aesthetic inspiration…

1. If you're looking for something iconic, this miniature Ulsterbus, built by employees of the Northern Ireland Road Transport Board, is just the (bus) ticket!
2. Austin pedal car - perfect size for a soapbox car, but looks as fancy as a Rolls Royce.
3. Daimler pedal car, in the happiest colours around.
4. Cheetah car, custom made for Davy Jones and as stylish as you’d want any car to be.

Ahead of the final North West 200 race tomorrow, we thought it apt to share this recently acquired photograph of David Andrews competing in the 1951 event.

It is part of the recently launched Edna Andrews collection, which is on display in our ‘Driven’ exhibition in the B Galleries of the Ulster Transport Museum.

Although Edna did not compete in the NW200, she did compete - and win - the Ladies Circuit of Ireland the following year in 1952.
