This June, BL6 Studios opens its doors for Prompts, an exhibition of work created by students on the Exploring Arts: Mixed Media Course at Enjoy Learning, facilitated by artist and tutor Anna Stevens.

The work comes from a course built around curiosity, chance and experimentation. Surrealist zines, clay forms, fragmented portraits, abstract landscapes, mark-making, collage, manuscript-inspired pieces and layered mixed media all come together in one exhibition.

Preview evening: Friday 12th June, 7pm to 9pm

Weekend viewing: Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June, 12 noon to 4pm
Free entry.

Lino cutting is a great introduction to printmaking.

You will be learning the basic steps with the introduction of a lino tile and use of various cutting tools.

There are plenty of designs to choose, from 'birds to botanicals' or try various images from our supply of art books. But you can also bring a design/drawing of your choice to work from.

We will also cover the use of colour and layering for those who maybe returning to this workshop and wish to try more techniques.

This workshop is £40 and covers all materials.

The studio is easy to reach from the M61 motorway, with nearby train stations at Horwich Parkway and Blackrod. Blackrod is possibly the closest to the studios.

There are also direct bus routes from Bolton, Preston and Chorley.

Parking
Parking directly outside BL6 Studios on Hampson Street can be unpredictable.

On any given day, it could be completely empty or completely chock-a-block. There are several active businesses in the area, so spaces come and go throughout the day, and there are no designated parking bays for the studio.

There is usually parking on nearby streets, including Wright Street, Julia Street, Lord Street, Peter Martin Street, Dickinson Street and Brady Street.

You may also find spaces on Hope Street, Scholes Bank, Lee Lane and Lever Park Avenue, all within a short walk of the studio.

In most cases, you will find somewhere to park nearby. It may simply involve a short walk of around 150–200 yards.

If you are delivering or collecting artwork, we can usually accommodate short-term access directly outside the studio. Please let us know in advance so we can plan for your arrival.

So while you might not get a space right outside the door, you will get parked. It just depends whether you need immediate access or are happy with a brief walk.

A proper Long Pose Painting Day for anyone who wants more time with the model than a standard life drawing session allows.

We’ll have two shorter poses before stopping for a light bite, then a longer two-hour pose after lunch so you can develop a more considered drawing or painting.

12–4pm.

Light lunch, tea and coffee included.

Matthew’s work blends realism with abstraction. It’s clean, punchy, and full of energy. The kind of artwork that doesn’t sit quietly on a wall, it holds attention.

Art lovers, fancy improving your drawing skills?

Led with expert tuition, each session blends structured exercises, demonstrations, and personalised feedback—helping you develop everything from proportion and gesture to tone and expressive mark-making.

With easels and a friendly studio atmosphere ready for you, it’s not just about drawing—it’s about slowing down, connecting with your creativity, and becoming part of a vibrant artistic community right in the heart of Horwich.

Whether you’re a beginner or returning to drawing, it’s one of the most inspiring ways to strengthen your artistic practice.
Throughout these sessions, step-by-step guidance and demos are given throughout these sessions, along with encouragement and feedback within the group. We will also be looking at using different materials such as pencil, charcoal, pastels and inks.

We will have a variety of models and poses on this course.
The dates for this six-week block are Wednesdays, 15th, 22nd and 29th April and the 6th, 13th and 20th May. These sessions will run in the mornings from 10 - 12 pm.

The course is £130 and will include all materials and tuition. Tea/coffee are also provided.
