Close-up of 'Figures in the Surf' by David Storey. Swipe to see the full image.
David uses a mixture of oil and egg tempera, a delicate medium that requires a speedy application. See how he leaves the runny drip marks, which enhance the movement of the water and highlight the transient nature of the moment.
There is mystery but also a lot of joy in this image, is it a childhood memory or a even a wishful dream?

Champagne for artists! Going to the joint winners of our Visitors Choice Award. David Storey and Graham Dean proved our most popular artists in the annual Winter Show.
We asked all our visitors to fill out a little slip with their favourite artist… the upshot, apart from great feedback on the exhibition was that people really engaged with the artwork and made careful choices regarding their favourites.
Both David Sorey and Graham Dean have upcoming solo exhibitions with us in the next few months - join our mailing list for early access. Link in bio.
The exhibition continues this weekend -we are open 12-5pm Sat and Sun. Come and choose your favourite!
