🙌 🥂 🎉 🍾 Wow what an incredible turnout we had for our opening night of Kindred Tides last night- a HUGE thank you to everyone that came along to support us- we hope you enjoyed the display and took something useful away from the talk- it was brilliant exploring the overlap of art and conservation with North Devon Surfing reserve- seeing how both areas could work together in the future to protect our coastlines- thanks Rob & Cookie for imparting your wisdom and passion!

It was brilliant to be a part of the Ilfracombe Photography Festival- we've had great feedback from all our visitors this weekend, so many fascinating venues, displays & talks throughout the town- and this is only year 1...!

Thanks to our creatives for transforming our space into a photographic wonder- Chris Gatcum and Drew McDonald for chatting with us as well!

An extra special shout out to the gorgeous Georgia Buckly for very bravely leading the talk 😉 and being the spark that ignited Kindred Tides- it was an absolute pleasure collaborating with you on this project!

Magenta Ilfracombe will be showing the exhibition until next Sunday 18th!

💡My favourite question to ask visitors in the gallery- How do you feel when you look at an abstract painting? Instead of trying to figure out what it looks like, what do you feel???

🤩The answers are always fascinating, from deep raw emotion; joy, power, sadness, to visions of the beginning of life, space collisions, fire, water, waves...!

Intruding Ties Albers to the Magenta Portfolio-

Albers describes his work as “organic, colourful and sensitive.”

At the heart of Albers’ practice is a profound connection to nature. He photographs flowers, stems, roots and branches and uses them as the foundation for his compositions. Then working by hand using textured gels, sand, oil sticks, spray paint, charcoal, acrylic, varnish, metallic pigments and diamond dust. Techniques such as crackled “aging layers” create a sense of history and depth, giving each piece a unique surface and a luminous, tactile presence.

One week today!!!

Opening night - talk starts at 6:30pm on Saturday 10th October- panel discussion with artists and the North Devon Surfing Reserve, exploring the question:

CAN ART SAVE A COASTLINE?

Art. Community. Surfing. Conservation.

We’re delighted to be part of Kindred Tides, a special collaborative exhibition celebrating our connection to the North Devon coastline, bringing together photography, painting and sculpture from local artists.

And, as part of the Ilfracombe Photography Festival, photographer Nick Corkill will lead a photography walk from the gallery on Sunday 12th October, exploring Ilfracombe through the lens of place, community and our relationship with the coast.
