Ilkley Arts

Ilkley Arts Ilkley Arts is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, whose aims are to promote & celebrate the arts

We are a small charity (officially called a charitable incorporated organisation – CIO) based in Ilkley run by volunteers. Ilkley is famous for its beautiful moor with ancient rock carvings and its medieval Manor House. Ilkley Arts runs the Ilkley Arts studio that is a venue for exhibitions, workshops and is also home to the Ilkley Art School and the Ilkley Arts Hub Members Network where artists a

nd creatives can come together to share ideas and thoughts about their and other artists’ work. Our core mission at Ilkley Arts is to promote and celebrate the arts in Ilkley and surrounding areas to enrich the lives of residents and visitors and to support and help the development of our exhibiting artists. We work with a wide range of organisations to achieve this mission from those whose focus is on developing the younger generation such as Ilkley Manor House, Art School Ilkley, Bradford School of Art and Nell Bank Centre to those who are working with individuals, families and carers whose world involves dementia and other age related conditions.

A lovely day spent with Ilkley Arts Members combining a clay workshop with Hayley Cooper to make a hand built vessel, alongside a large scale, communal embroidery project inspired by Spring flowers with Sarah Gamble. So good to revisit the playful qualities of working with clay whilst the sewing was very relaxing!

Our aim is to create a rhythm across the year where members can learn, experiment and
then exhibit within a particular discipline. This approach helps ensure that artists working in
many di9erent disciplines have opportunities for visibility, learning and exhibition throughout
the year.
The next area within this programme is Ceramics, 3D and Textiles
Planned events ……
Make a textured slab vase - Workshop with Hayley Cooper.
A hands on ceramics workshop using the slab method to create a textured vase which will
be simply glazed and fired after the workshop.
Community stitch – Workshop with Sarah Gamble
Come and enjoy a relaxed peaceful workshop where we will create a joint piece of
collabrative work based on drawing, painting and stitch.
Both of these workshops will take place on Sunday 17th May in the Ilkley Arts studio and
will run side by side allowing members to take part in both if they wish
Both sessions will be 10am to 12noon then 1pm to 3pm. Please book places by emailing
[email protected] stating the workshop and prefered time slot.
Members Ceramics, 3D and Textiles Show
Running over the weekend of
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th June 2026
As for the Painting and Drawing Show we would like this to be a collaborative event, with
everyone who exhibits also helping in some way, with the set-up of the exhibition and taking
a turn stewarding during the show. This shouldn’t be onerous if everyone chips in.
If you are interested in taking part in this members show please email either

We welcome our incoming Artist in the Attic Ali Hobbs “I am a filmmaker and artist exploring immersive, embodied practice through materials, process, and long-term engagement with people and place. With a background in experimental art and a long career in broadcast television, this studio residency is giving me the much-needed time to play and the space to get messy as I begin experimenting with larger-scale work” http://www.alihobbs.com/ Ilkley Arts look forward to having Ali upstairs in the attic and watching what develops!

Members Painting and Drawing Show
To complement our current focus on painting and drawing, we are hoping to run a Members Painting and Drawing Show over the May Bank Holiday weekend (2–4 May) in the Ilkley Arts Studio.

We would like this to be a collaborative event, with everyone who exhibits also helping with the set-up of the exhibition and taking a turn stewarding during the show. This shouldn’t be onerous if everyone chips in.

We would especially love some newer members—or those who haven’t exhibited before—to get involved, as well as our regular participants.

If you would like to contribute to the show, please email Christine Pilgrem at [email protected] by 24 March.

A free to members workshop is now available to book by emailing [email protected]. A Morandi inspired workshop led by Louise Hepworth-Wood on Saturday 28th February, 10-12. Please DM or email with any questions The workshop will entail a 2 hour session that will begin with a brief demonstration by Louise about the importance of composition to create a simple Still Life arrangement using 3-5 bottles of choice, painted using watercolour and pen and referencing artist Giorgio Morandi.

You will then have the opportunity to personally complete a couple of studies on A4/ A3 watercolour paper. This will be a very relaxed session in which artists can choose to share and discuss approaches and ideas or quietly paint independently.

All materials will be provided; we look forward to seeing you.
