We were delighted to welcome a group of youngsters from Augsburg to Shinty’s Story as part of The Highland Council’s sporting exchange to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the city’s twinning with Inverness - watch to see what they had to say about their experience with Scotland’s community sport 🏑

Bha sinn glè thoilichte fàilte a chur air buidhean na h-òigridh bho Augsburg gu Sgeul Na Camanachd, mar pàirt dhe co-luach Comhairle Na Gàidhealtachd agus Augsburg. Airson riochdachadh 70 bliadhnaichean a bhith ag obair ri chèile. Coimhead airson lorg a mach dè bha aca ri radh mu an turas aca 🏑

This image is the very first photograph in Donald MacKay’s archive, captioned "Very wet supporters". It was taken at the 1973 Camanachd Cup final at Claggan Park, Fort William between Glasgow Mid Argyll and Kingussie, which took place in what can only be described as relentless torrential rain.

The gentleman on extreme right is Tony Mackay sharing a joke with Danny Fraser of Glenurquhart. Tony Mackay was the father of Donald Mackay.

Tha seo a chiad dealbh anns an tasg-lann aig Dòmhnall MacAoidh, leis a fo-thiotal “luchd-taice gu math fluich”. Tha an dealbh seo bhon a’ chuairt dheireannach Cupa Na Camanachd ann an 1973 aig Pairc an Claigeann san Gearasdan, eadar Cean a’ Ghiùthsaich agus Glaschu is Meadhain Earra Ghàidheal a chaidh air adhart anns an t-uisge.

‘S e Tony MacAoidh a tha air an taobh deas, a gabhail fealla-dhà le Danny Fraser à Gleann Urchadain. ‘S e athair aig Dòmhnall MacAoidh a bh’ann an Tony MacAoidh.

Nowadays the Women's game is well established and continues to grow at a healthy rate, but this wasn’t always the case 👇🏻

Our competitions section has a focus on the growth of the women’s game. In 1999 the Walker Cup was introduced as a trophy for the winners of the north + south leagues, and was played for until 2007. Attached is a photo of the final between Dunadd and Glengarry in 2000 📸

It’s one of many trophies on display on our exhibition - come down and have a look, we’re open from 10-4 at Bught Park Inverness!

Ged gu bheil geama nam bàn làidir ‘san latha an diugh, agus a fàs gu fallainn cha robh seo an-còmhnaidh mar a bha e 👇🏻

Tha an roinb cho-fharpais againn a cur aire air geama nam bàn. Ann an 1999 chaidh a chupa Mac an Fhùcadair a chruthachadh airson an an sgioba a bhuannaich lìg an deas an aghaidh an sgioba a bhuanniach lìg a tuath. Bha seo air an cluich suas gu 2007. Le seo tha dealbh bhon cuairt deireannach eadar Dùn Ada agus Ghleanna Garadh ann an 2000 📷

Se aon de na feadhainn a tha againn air taisbeanadh ann an Sgeul Na Camanachd. Thig sios airson barrachd fhaicinn. Tha sinn fosgailte bho 10-4 aig Pàirc a’ Bhucht

A new top has appeared in our exhibition from Kintyre Camanachd!

Founded in 1985 in Campbelltown, Kintyre competed in the lower reaches of the south area leagues around that time, winning South Division 4 in 1992. The club entered abeyance in the following years, although a women’s team played until 2009

Thanks to former player Martin Cameron for donating this strip - here he is pictured with former team mate Ewan Neilson before the Over 45’s Veterans match 🏑

Two key figures in the club’s history were Donny Woodrow and Calum McKinven, who played major roles in forming and sustaining Kintyre Camanachd. Their hard work and dedication helped preserve shinty in Campbeltown and the wider Kintyre peninsula for many years.

Tha lèine ùr againn bho Comann Camanachd Cheann Tìre!

Air an thogail ann an 1985 ann an Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain. Chluich iad anns na lìgean a deas ‘san àm sin agus bhuannaich iad Lìg Deas 4 ann an 1992. Stad iad a cluich anns na bliadhnaichean ri teachd, ach chluich sgioba nam bàn aca suas gu 2009.

Taing gu seann cluicheadar Martin Cameron airson seo a chur a steach. Seo e le seann cluicheadar eile Ewan Neilson ron geama thairis 45.

Bha Donny Woodrow agus Calum Mckinven glè chudromach dhan club. Rinn iad obair gu math chudromach ann an cumail Camanachd Cheann tìre beò. Rinn iad obair cruaidh airson cuideachadh ioman ann Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain agus thairis air Cinn Tìre air fad airon bliadhnaichean
