Her paintings are intricate portraits of flowers and seeds, meticulously detailed yet often large in scale. She cites her influences as Georgia O'Keefe, Karl Blossfeldt and early 17th century Dutch painters such as Ambrosius Bosschaert. Natalie has exhibited her paintings throughout Great Britain including the Royal Academy, Birmingham City Art Gallery, Cork Street galleries in London, and the Jud
ith Blacklock Gallery 83 in Knightsbridge. How I work
Over the years painting and drawing flowers has developed from an interest into a passion. I wanted to experiment with working to a larger scale whilst still trying to capture detail, character and delicacy. I now allow the subject to dictate which I use, sometimes the vibrancy of a flower means only colour will reflect its personality and spirit, and sometimes the contrast of light and shade are such a fundamental part of the symmetry of the image that this observation of beautiful forms has to be examined in full. Work in progress
The use of symmetry in nature is so strong. This is an area that I find completely fascinating and I am currently developing a series of smaller work based on the principal of multiple reflection, creating six duplicate images of a section of a painting. The tumbling of the coloured objects presents varying colours and patterns. Arbitrary patterns show up as a beautiful symmetrical image created by the reflections.
